In a sign that they are likely to declare victory in the presidential primary very soon, the Obama campaign is now boasting in a memo to reporters that they are on the cusp of winning the pledged-delegate majority, thanks to the endorsement from John Edwards and a group of his delegates.
By the Obama campaign's math, they are only 17 elected delegates away from the pledged-del majority, a number that they are guaranteed to pull off next week in Oregon and Kentucky. Expect them to court super-delegates to break their way en masse after that happens, on the basis that Obama has the popular mandate to be the nominee.

Hillary should gracefully concede, as many in the past, in our democracy, have done when they understood that the bigger picture is what really matters. Personal ambitions should not take precedence over what is right.
-
It's actually the appearance of democracy that's so inconvenient and the popular myth of it that seems to have faded since as representative republic we've never had a democracy only a pale form.
-
But he's counting on super-delegates he doesn't have; which isn't the smartest move...
-
If I were in Obama's camp I'd be careful about playing the math game... Hillary's mouthpieces tried it and it backfired and made her look as delusional as Dubya.
-
Hillary can still win this thing if she wins the popular vote WITHOUT Michigan she will argue that the guy who got fewer votes should not be the nominee.
And who knows what the supers will do?
That may depend on the polls of the moment or some hidden dirt on Obama. -
I doubt there's any true "hidden dirt" on obama; haven't you noticed they can only get him by association and nothing else.
-
McCain should just quit now! He'll get beat so bad, he'll move to Vietnam.

Democracy is only inconvenient when you're a Clinton supporter. Your comment doesn't even make sense considering the circumstances. And, if you are by some stretch referring to Michigan and Florida, know that, ina democracy, if you break a rule, you get punished (unless you're in charge, naturally).-

Jan - I like you, but give it a break.
Jan - check out what malt -tit had to say, and then read what I wrote: http://Current.com/items/88961879_it_takes_270_electora...
The rest of you, I'll tell you now, it's not worth looking at. It's rubbish - Hillary accounting you know - like sniper fire, like Sadam and Bin Laden, like WMD's in Iraq, like all the other lies of the Busheney gang that Hillbillary is clearly emulating.-

Okay, okay, please don't tear me down, but I did vote for Hillary in the upcoming Oregon primary. But after seeing McCain on SNL tonight, I do have to say this to the Republican party: There is no Democralypse! Democrats are turning out in record numbers for the primary, news media is following every move Hillary and Obama make, and I for one will be just as happy to have Obama as president as Hillary!
I think it's total bull that the conservative media is trying to spin this primary into some party demise story. There isn't a single Hillary voter I know (excluding those odd West Virginians that were unfortunately used in sound-bytes) who would be so horrifically distraught when Obama gets the nomination that they'd take their fury out by voting for McCain. I congratulate Hillary and Obama for making history not through their race of gender, but for make Democrats show how much they care about this country's future. -
Voyager: I like you too but aren't all opinions allowed here? Give it a break? What does that mean? And Keeshi, I am not for either one of them but I am for allowing people to vote by not skewing the results, and endorsements and all of this victory talk on either side only does that. And newsflash for all of you: not supporting Obama is not a crime in America. Some of you are starting to sound like the Bush supporters did in 2000. It's getting scary.
The bottomline is, primaries are set until June. A convention is set in August to pick the nominee. The willingness of some to just disregard the votes of others just to get their pick is not Democratic to me. But then I don't put party over country or the voters who still voted in Michigan and Florida and deserve to be heard regardless of who they voted for. And I'm fairly sure I can express those thoughts here and will continue to do so. So no, I won't give giving my opinion "a break."-

Jan, I'm not choosing sides here, but the reason that the votes aren't being counted isn't because some wish to disregard those votes or those voters...It's because rules were set up that stipulated that it would be that way. So, if suddenly one side or the other gains an advantage by changing those rules in midstream, then I say, where is the Democracy in that..? I voted in Florida and I prefer that if your going to make rules then abide by them..!!! For me, the vote that will count is the one that will send Grampy McCain packing...those are the people who disregarded our votes...
Be honest...your not putting party above country...your just attempting to put Hillary above country and above Democracy...if she didn't have anything to gain by changing the rules, you wouldn't be supporting that move...
We've been over this Lots already...let's give it a rest
Please don't feel like everyone is ganging up on you. It's just that your argument is very weak...and my being able to say that is part of the system we hold so dear...the one we call Democracy...-

Funny, it is only those who dare give an opposite opinion who are told to give it a rest by those who never give their preaching and chastizing a rest. Why is that? Again, one more time so you and everyone else here who preaches can understand: I don't give a damn about DNC rules when it comes to counting the votes of Americans who actually took time to go to the polls to vote REGARDLESS of who they voted for or when. It is obvious that state law superceded the DNC since the elections were held anyway regardless of their "rules." So why not count it? Believe that or don't. I personally don't care how you wish to validate my opinion by assuming something about me that is not true.
Should Democrats lose Michigan and Florida in November because they DO put party before country they will deserve it. Perhaps that will then make some see how totally stupid their rules are and how much they actually stifle Democracy for all of their talk about "counting the votes." And as long as this keeps being mentioned here as a topic I will respond to it as I see fit. For all of the times I have disagreed with others I have never told them to "give it a break' or 'give it a rest' because I feel threatened by opposing viewpoints.-

i just find it interesting that florida is primarily republican and it was thier congress that decided to move the date. HMM...i think some one is trying not rig the election again.
-
Good news about Obama always makes me happy!
-
Even funnier, janforgore, is that I just registered this account two days ago, and other than seeing your comments on other news stories, we have never had an exchange.
But, humoring the argument about counting the delegates, if Michigan is split down the middle (his name wasn't even on the ballot, and she did not win overwhelmingly), and Florida is given to her, he still wins. You may consider my opinion to be preachy, but I'm not sure you realize your opinion is outside the realm of reality.-

You can sense this air of closer in this race and it's about time. I have been pulling for Obama ever since I first saw him. I have never in all my life been so interested in one political candidate or political race. The is almost to much to bare. We can do this we can change America for the better, and it is feels good, a political endorphin high if I have ever felt one.

Jan, fine, don't take a break. It was a figure of speech - not a literal command. This comment is not solely directed at you, but to / for everyone.
But look, you fail to question anything about HIllary in your posts that I have seen, or at least taken notice of - in the face of questionable circumstances about Hillary, you "appear" to remain blindly loyal - such as you suggested about Obama supporters. Do you realize this?
Hillary constantly saying 'she's the strong opponent against McCain' really does more for McCain than anyone. Do you see that??????
This is sooooooooo critical. Do you understand the mentality behind that comment?
Is there any way I can emphasis this enough?
A leader is not a person who defines themselves based upon their opponent - for what direction could they provide if they are DEPENDENT on someone or something that is irrelevant, not consequential?????
Does that make sense to any of you Hillbillary supporters? A leader isn't a person who RE-ACTS to the world around them - that is not leadership. If it is not leadership you are voting for, this country will be a ship without a rudder - if you get the analogy.
A leader is someone who is PROACTIVE, who has possession of themselves and their own mind - and whose position is not blowing in the wind - manipulated by the likes of Carl "fat punk" Rove.-

Hillary should just admit defeat and unify the democratic party under Obama's name. She says she's still running because she shouldn't give up, yet it only looks like she's doing it to protect her own image. She's dividing the party, rather than ensureing a win for them in the real election later this year.

Fail to question anything about Clinton? Clearly you aren't then reading my posts. Either that or you don't really give a damn about the environment or climate change, because I have done nothing but question them all on their touting of 'clean coal', nuclear, and their lackluster climate change plans because that is the most important issue to me. How come when entries like that are put up Obama supporters run away from discussion? Because he is so simliar to the rest of them? The continued targeting of my opinions here and how I express them is then getting very old.
All I see is that out of all of the candidates running none of them excites me regarding issues. Not Clinton, not Obama, and certainly not McCain. I also don't have to validate that in every post. The ONLY TIME I have defended Clinton was when the sexism issue was raised as I would any female candidate running for president regarding the disgusting sexist comments I have seen here and elsewhere in the past, and I stated that out of all of the candidates her healthcare plan seems like the one closest to getting to universal healthcare.... just as Elizabeth Edwards thinks. That is it. So why the damn guilt trip?
No wonder you never see many supporters of any other candidate on this site. If it were incumbant upon voting to take supporters into account, I would not vote for Obama even if I was leaning towards him. Many of them are downrignt nasty and overbearing in their contempt for criticism of him on issues. I suppose that is why all we ever see about him on this site are feel good threads regarding him "winning" and fluff threads that don't even attempt to discuss anything in a way other than to praise him. They are both wrong about voting to fund this war as well as I have stated many times here about both of them. I suppose you didn't see that either.
And as I stated regarding this issue, I want the votes counted because I believe in not disenfranchising voters regardless of who they voted for. If you can't understand that concept there is no other way it can be explained. Now if you are done preaching to me I'm moving on from this. This is the last time I intend to validate my opinions on Obama, Clinton, or any other candidate here.-

Jan, come on, it's not adversarial between us - don't perceive it that way.
You show a clear bias towards or in defense of Hillbillary. I don't bother to keep a score card on your posts or positions, but it's pretty clear to me.
You don't have to justify, explain or anything else your positions - unless you want to. Nobodies forcing you to do anything and you're not obligated.
Look, it helps to evaluate and come to a conclusion about a person, not on every little thing they do or say, no one is going to be in complete agreement with Obama, me, you or anybody else all the time. We don't have to. For a moment, forget all the specifics of issues and ask yourself if Obama expresses the values that you have? If he does, you may see that in time, things will become more clear, or better understood, or work out as ultimately we share the same goals for our future, country and children.
I'll add, that candidates have more to consider than the issues you do, for good reason they may not place the emphasis on things as you do. It's a balancing act for them as a politician, as a presidential candidate. The position and the politics involved are tremendous. Change doesn't happen overnight. It's a process, a slow process. If you think it's not, look what happened in the Soviet Union after Mikhail Gorbachev was replaced because people were in a big hurry. If you recall Gorbachev was rolling out changes slowly, Yeltsin rolled in and made a big fuss and the underworld dominated (probably still does) at the expense of the people.
You've been pretty vocal here, and I decided to address you directly. Does that make you uncomfortable? I didn't do it to pick on you, and I'm sorry if you feel that I have. -
Tennessee_Observer:
Oh, what is that famous, famous saying?
"What is in a name? That by which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
And if Obama is a rose, then Hilary is ... the manure beneath it.
Topic at hand:
*holds baited breath*
Let us hope that we democrats are united strongly soon enough, so that we can get in there in November and restore some logic back to this country. I believe that Obama is our man, and not only will he make a fine president, but open racial barriers that still chain this country down.
