Ten years ago I suffered adult onset of severe asthma, hives and allergy symptoms. I had it for 2 1/2 years before it was diagnosed by an allergist in Portland, Maine with Salicylate Intolerance. I was often in tears and in misery. I took trips to the emergency room to find out why I couldn't breath. My children had to draw hot steamy baths for me so I could soak and catch my breath.
I went through the regular US Medical Gauntlet of allergy tests, OTC Antihistamines and Prescription Medications, X-rays of my sinuses and even Acupuncture and Homeopathic remedies.
Finally I found an allergist in Portland, ME who figured it out. It was Salicylate/Aspirin Intolerance. I had to do a painstakingly difficult elimination diet. I was reactive to even minute quantities of this substance. It is found in most mainstream Americans foods in the form of artificial preservatives (Sodium Benzoate) and food color. At the time I found International Information that said they thought 10% of asthmatics with severe and moderate asthma had this Salicylate Intolerance. I can't find it now but will try to post it.
This is hidden from American public due to immoral control of of information for profits before ethics...even "cooler" MSNBC is sponsored heavily by Drug Industry Direct to Consumer Advertising.. This needs to stop in our next administration.
...and by the way I am 100% fine now. The levels have diminished from my body and I still watch what I eat but I am not so reactive. It took a long time to eliminate them though.

The high rollers in politics know the money to be made off the people from Drugs. (legal and illegal) The Tobacco company get shredded from selling something harmful. Why don't all the food and drug company's get the same treatment. After all they are also slowly poisoning our systems, knowingly!

Good to know.
These things keep on popping up...never ceases to amaze me what the few will do to the masses, just for something as retardedly fleeting as monetary gain.
It's shameful, really. I hope their grandparents are proud. -
..Who keeps putting negative postings on this type of informative posting should be ashamed of themselves. It is not going to work anymore. We now have a voice.

I developed the triad disease - aspirin allergy, sinisitus and asthma after the birth of my first child in 1988...i struggled for years (you name the convention and alternative treatment and i did it lots)...have health now through yoga, aerobic with biking or running. asthma in check still nose stuffiness and lack of smell.
i am very interested to hear that aspirin element is in artificial coloring and preservatives...would like to know more so i can cut out that...where do i find that? thanks very much for any ideas you have,
and THANK YOU for putting this issue out there.

I will try to find more info..it seems to be suppressed on our mainstream because no one makes money from it..
Here's something from NZ:

Ya, isn't it convenient that one industry causes symptoms for another to treat - all for profit.
Funny how eating organic food and a good diet with natural supplements works to prevent disease and health problems.
Hey - I just got a wild, truly hair-brained notion; "God" or whatever you wish to call it - made things they way they should be - and the human "ant brain" can't make anything better than the "Almighty Creator".
Oh, that'd be too radical a notion for most people I realize. Most people know THEIR God is imperfect and terribly flawed and that by science, technology or guns, bombs and destruction of property and life - they themselves are fixing THEIR God's blunders.
I'll tell you something - MY GOD is better than YOUR God, because my God doesn't make mistakes.-

VF I agree with what you say.
I am an agnostic but understand about God or whatever.
The key is balance and understanding what the body was designed to do and eat ...walk eat whole grains veggies without chems. keep away from using chems on your lawn..etc.
I look around myself and see what should be healthy bodies that are atrophying from not using them.
Rebel glad it helped!-

Allergies is in my life too and I have to be very careful with medications and some foods. But I do not let that from preventing me from enjoying my life. Its hard though when I see bees in the summer time, have to run around them. That Epi-pen just aren't my fav.

Wow! My doctor just figured out yesterday that I am allergic to aspirin and related foods. He has been treating me since March with antihistimines and anti inflammatory steroids. The hives and difficulty breathing keep coming back. It was very frustrating not knowing why I kept breaking out. Now that I know, I wanted to do research to see what else contains aspirin. Thanks to your article I know I'm not alone, and hopefully it will get better. Thank you.

My doctor knows about this and perhaps they can collaborate if you want her name let me know.
I feel for you because the process of eliminating this is so tedious..keep away from Chinese Mall food..buffets..just one drop of Sodium Benzoate can cause a bad reaction
Also the less you use drugs the better..I just used an inhaler when I had to lots of the drugs cause more reactions . .-

Thanks for the Chinese food tip. I usually don't like Chinese buffets, but it's good to know about Sodium Benzoate. Now I have a good excuse next time my friends want to go eat there. At first my dr. wanted me to eliminate nuts and any aspirin related drugs. But I was still consuming a lot of other foods that naturally have aspirin. I had no idea this problem even existed. Yesterday, I had a bad migraine and took an Aleve. I didn't think Tylenol was going to strong enough. I started to break out instantly from head to toe. A few hours(and 3 hydroxazines) later I was still breaking out and started to have trouble breathing. Scarry and frustrating at the same time. Did you have to eliminate everything at first then gradually build tolerance?

Thanks a bunch. I have a lot of research to do.
