Britain on alert for deadly new knife with exploding tip that freezes victims' organs

Senior police officers have been warned to look out for a new knife which can inject a ball of compressed gas into its victim that instantly freezes internal organs.

The 'wasp knife', which can deliver a ball of compressed gas capable of killing its victim at the press of a button, may be heading for Britain, the Metropolitan Police fear.

A needle in the tip of the blade shoots out the frozen ball of gas which instantly balloons to the size of a basketball, freezing organs.

The Metropolitan Police have told colleagues in the West Midlands to be on the lookout for the blade, which is designed to kill sharks and bears.

Police are concerned that the £200 weapon could fall into the wrong hands.

The American-made weapon is sold to hunters and divers and injects the frozen gas when the small handle-mounted trigger is pressed.

The manufacturer describes it as perfect for downed pilots, soldiers and security guards and boasts that it will "drop many of the world's largest land predators".

It can snap-freeze all tissue and organs in the area surrounding the blast.

A source close to West Midlands Police said: "The Met is obviously concerned about this and that is why they have circulated the information.

"This knife will almost certainly kill and the Met must have intelligence that they are in circulation.

"I think it is only a matter of time before one of these is used because the internet makes it much easier to find and buy weapons like this."

Labour MP for Perry Barr in Birmingham, Khalid Mahmood, said: "Weapons like this are absolutely disgraceful and there is no reason at all why people should be walking around the streets with them.

"There should be high-profile operations and high-profile arrests against anybody caught with them. The way to tackle the wider issue of knife crime is with effective community policing, which the West Midlands force does very well.

"The Met could pick up on the lessons from West Midlands Police in its excellent community work in places like Handsworth, Aston and Lozells."

The Wasp injection website states: "The effects of the compressed gas not only cause overinflation during ascent when used underwater, but also freezes all tissues and organs surrounding the point of injection on land or at sea."

    Personally, I think products like this need some serious legislation and preventive measures applied to stop it getting into the wrong hands. With such a huge increase in the amount of knife crime victims in the UK, I really don't think things like this help.

  • This is the stuff of nightmares. I cannot believe these kinds of weapons can just be bought over the counter as long as you have a hunting or diving license.

  • This is a pretty useful weapon for the right purpouse. It is meant for Divers, basically, if you catch a big fish you can then use the knife and press the button to send the fish above and not get more attraction from sharks or other predators.

    This would be easily, easily fixable, by removing Privacy from it's users and having them register with a serial number and owner. People would not try to loose them nor sell them without reporting it.

    I doubt your average hoodlum will carry one of these considering that its pretty damn expensive in the first place, and you need to reload every time you use the gas, which further adds to the expense.

    I don't think expense is going to stop people. Guns are expensive and people manage to get their hands on them. This is scary. What is happening to society? What kind of place do we live in where people feel they need to stab people with an exploding knife.

    I was curious what a weapon like this is used for in the first place... from their website:

    Though, under the "Military and Tactical" section, it says:
    "The WASP is ideally suited for:

    or Remote Forests

    S.W.A.T. and Special Police
    Security Guards
    The WASP - Give Our Troops the Edge!"

    So apparently it's ok to explode the insides of your enemies... even if they are just fighting for their country the same way our troops are fighting for ours. Nice.

    See, if the british would just let up on their gun laws British citizens could just get shot like everyone else and not have a ball of compressed air freezing their organs.

    This just goes to show that no matter how many weapons a government tries to ban people will just figure out new and innovative ways of killing each other.

  • Knife dealers, they make these especially for business just like they've made knives especially for stabbing, better than any kitchen knife.

    This is an awful thing, I hate having to be scared of these ignorent swines. I'd love to use my air rifle that we used to use to shoot rats as these cowards are muchworse than any rat. But they're just lucky I'm a better person then they are to take my rifle as the unfair advantage, even while they abuse that them selves.

    Thanks for posting saltygirl, this knife sounds awful and I'd hate to be confronted with one of those.

  • I know that I'm going to get a lot of flak for this, but I think that the Wasp is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Not only will it slice said bread, but it can also freeze it at the same time! Now that's what I call "progress"!

  • To those of you who suggest we just ban all knives, we need those for the kitchen still. And people can still make them, so it's not that simple.

    Also, I'm not saying thugs founded this particular knife, but they can make them. Some may be ignorent but are useing knowlege without common sense for the creation of more of these. While yes, some are brought in through corrupt militant members aswell.

  • If you are in fear of a deadly weapon falling into the wrong hands then why the hell would you announce its existence? the media is hilarious sometimes. I believe it is wise that law enforcers are aware of this wasp knife but when you put it in the news, now anybody is aware of it and now has access to purchase it.

    Its like" Hey everybody in the world! there's this new knife out thats very dangerous and its called the wasp knife and we dont want it in the wrong hands. go to waspknife.com for more info."

  • In the mid '60s our family had a wine cork extractor. This was a four inch hollow needle that was attached to a gas cartridge. You pushed the needle through the cork, touched the button and POP! The cork came out instantly.

    Now that cork extractor was in common use in many households (maybe can still find them at your kitchen store). It also was totally deadly, easier to hide, and judging from the watermelon video, went in much easier.

    I don't know if those things were declared illegal, but they were far less expensive. Nobody even thought twice about using it or even letting the kids play with it. "Just don't waste the gas, Tommy, it's expensive!"

  • America (and perhaps the rest of the world, but not as crazy) is all about weapons, action, death, enemies, me vs. you, competition, harm, kill, injure, power. All about money and greed, never mind that animals and humans are gonna suffer because the killer tools we make.

    It's all bullshit. I am pro weapon and self defense, but I'm more for pro rational, peace, and cooperation, that's what makes our species advanced and prosper.
