Batman star Christian Bale has been questioned by police over allegations he assaulted his mother and sister the night before the European premiere of his film, ``The Dark Knight,'' British media reported Tuesday.

Update: Bale has now left the London police station at which he was being questioned. The Sky.com article discusses Bale's demeanour on the night he is alleged to have assaulted his family members - he was interviewed by a reporter after it is said to have happened, who talks to Sky about his conduct that night.

  • Bale is known to be a little 'intense' and perhaps 'kooky', but this sounds crazy! Let's suspend judgement until we hear more about this story ...

  • I suppose after this, they're going to start saying how his role as Batman has had influential affects on his life, like they did with Heath Ledger and the Joker.

    I really hope this isn't true, all the articles are pretty much saying the same thing, I'm going to wait until i hear more.. =[[

  • I don't think it's a publicity stunt. The whole world is talking about The Dark Knight and there would be no need to hype the film right now.

    I assume he must have been very nervous about the première...

  • I gotta agree with you there Saverio, I don't think they would pull such a sick publicity stunt, they've got no reason to, especially with so many shiny reviews across the web.

    I think there's something obviously going on behind the scenes, Fii' got it right, I too will wait until there's more developments before labelling him a mum and sister beater.

    I normally get a bit of a funny tummy and the sweats when I'm nervous, however I don't recall ever punching my mum in the face. (My sister maybe...we used to have some great fights when we were kids, I'm glad she didn't report me).

  • What a horribly strange story this is! I've always been such a huge fan of Christian Bale - he's definitely my favorite actor, particularly because he's never in the tabloids the way other actors so often are.

  • Maybe his mom and his sister are hatching a plot to destroy him or something. Who knows?

    Physical abuse is not only a crime, it's completely twisted and cruel regardless of the circumtances, and if this story is accurate then of course it's very serious and he should be punished.

  • Hopefully this is just a weird misunderstanding in an otherwise brilliant career.

    But maybe he's got a real dark side. Anyone who would drop to like 90 pounds to play a role (the Machinist) is a little bit on the crazy side in my opinion.

    TMZ is reporting that it's not for physical assault but for verbal assault.

    People.com is saying: "Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister," the star's lawyers said in the statement. "Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale."

  • The definition of assault is the "threat of physical harm against another person."

    Battery is actual physical harm. I'm not sure what Bale had said but in this day and age, you can say a wide range of things to a person and they can construe it as assault, even your own family. I'd like to reserve judgment before people start claiming that he bitch slapped his mom and sister or that he punched them in the face.

  • If Christian Bale assaulted anybody they would go to the hospital, not the police. Anyone who can make me smile, laugh, and cry in such great movies as The Newsies, and American Psycho can’t be too bad. If he needs me to I’m willing to by a plane ticket to London and testify as a character witness in his defense. These allegations could be nothing but false. I got Bale’s back!

    Christian Bale was American Psycho way before Batman.

    All kidding aside, abuse is not cool,.. lets hope that these allegations are blown out of proportion.

    I do like his movies even if he is a nuts.......anger management maybe helpful!

    I love how everyone is assuming he's a great guy because of the scripted roles he's played. I'm not saying he should rot in jail - we don't really know enough - but verbal abuse is still abuse. If you don't think so then you've never experienced it.

    Should one wait to be physically abused before reporting verbal abuse? By then it could be too late...

    Super Star or not, everyone has their problems...and if it's true that this was based on old family issues, then maybe he's not who everyone thinks he is...or sees on the screen.

    Batman is a character. He's just a person. A pretty hot person. mmmm...batman.

    Verbal abuse can make you feel depressed and less of what you are. Not cool batman, Your not so hot anymore are you? Just skin deep.
