CBS edits McCain gaffe on Iraq

In an interview with Katie Curic this evening Sen. McCain, in response to Sen. Obama's assertion that conditions may have improved in Iraq regardless of the surge, claimed the Sunni awakening that pitted them against the Al Qaeda insurrection happened as a result of the surge. Stating it was a simple matter of historic fact McCain feigned to not understand how Obama could make such a gaffe. The only problem, or rather the latest problem, is the surge hadn't happened when the Sunnis turned against Al Qaeda in Iraq.

  • That is a very tough call. Do you broadcast McCain's drivel, and perpetuate the Big Lie. Do you challenge him on line and get attacked for being partisan? (or admit that your reporter is incompetent because she didn't catch the mistake live and on-line?)

    Or take the cowards way out and pretend it didn't happen.

    Mainstream Media are just a bunch of money grubbing cowards.

  • THIS IS VERY DISTURBING TO ME BECAUSE IF THE MEDIA WHO IS OR SHOULD BE REPORTING THE TRUTH CAN ARBITRARILY CHANGE A RESPONSE TO FIT A QUESTION LIKE THAT.. WHAT ELSE HAVE THEY DONE? IF THEY'RE CLEANING UP GAFFE'S LIKE THAT FOR MC CAIN...WHAT CAN OR DO THEY DO TO MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE A FOOL? OR WILL THEY PUT FOOTAGE TOGETHER TO MAKE OBAMA SOUND LIKE A NUT?     Big news networks are more and more irrelevant in the face of the internet. It's hilarious watching these fools try to stay relevant.

    Katie Couric and the "news anchor" format make me feel like I'm at a hip trendy modern club and someone is doing break dancing.

    She even said herself, "The glory days of TV News are over." You're right for once, Kate. And you'll be the one who rides that sinking ship to the bottom of the sea.

  • It all boils down to who's voices they play over and over again. Mainstream media plays Republican voices over and over saying liberal media bias, while they work to assist the Republicans. Not showing John McCain’s gaffs, while highlighting Barack Obama’s is a fine example of double-speak. Republicans are all over the airwaves claiming media is helping Barack more than McCain.

    Giving voice to those who claim liberal media bias leaves the masses to think media is liberally bias and they should ignore what media reports about Democrats, because it's bias. It's strategery. It makes people believe the Republican spin must be correct, cause ya know media is bias for the Democrats? It’s an ‘Assault on Reason’.

    Clearly CBS had no right to edit the gaffe. The American people have a right to know if presidential candidates have a firm understanding of what's going on in the world.

    I had heard John McCain was born outside the United States, on a base, which did not automatically give American Citizenship to children born on the base? Changes had to be made to enable John McCain to run for President. His birth was not deemed American born citizen.

  • Kudos to the upright citizen who leaked the real interview!

    CBS and other mainstream media outlets sell an insultingly narrow spectrum of thought to the public. Right/left, dem/rep but in the end it's a puppet show to keep us entertained while those in power (be they democrat or republican) plunder and gain wealth.
