"Condé Nast will launch a UK version of Wired magazine and its accompanying website next year and has hired the Jewish Chronicle's editor, David Rowan, to edit it.
The UK debut issue of the monthly technology magazine will arrive on newsstands in the first half of 2009.
Guardian Media Group previously tied up with Wired for a short-lived UK version of the magazine in the mid-1990s.
The publisher will also launch a version of Wired in Italy early next year, prior to the UK launch."

I can't wait to read the Wired in Italian, but was a British version necessary?

I think if they deal with UK releases and focus more on the UK gadget lovers rather than treating us as semi-cast-offs, then yeah, it is necessary.
Although, I can't imagine the magazines been that popular, especially with the following they have online. -
Yeah, too right. I'm incredulous that anyone would launch a print magazine in the current climate - brave move that might just pay off. It'll certainly be a fantastic magazine with Luna and Rowan at the helm, and I'm sure some of my student loan will be hacked away at every month to get my hands on a copy. Interestingly, the Guardian attempted a UK version of Wired in the mid-1990s, which was short-lived, but if Conde Nast want to throw their money at the San Francisco legend, I'm not complaining ...
