The media has been abuzz today at the prospect of Russian nuclear bombers being stationed in Cuba if the US goes ahead with plans for missile defence bases in Eastern Europe.

it would also depend on which type of bomber was stationed in Cuba. If they station Bacfire, Blackjack, or blinders there it could mean a strick just as fast as an ICBM with much more stealth cutting the attack warnings down by about 20 minuts. Also they could fly over International airspace and use air launched missils to attack our country with less than 2 minuts warning to the president and the NCA.
-
None of this really matters America and the Russians both have nuclear submarine floating around the oceans. That could destroy the world with in seconds.
-
1962 all over again?
-
is strategic cooperation with the russians even a (realistic) possibility for the united states? this has all the potential makings of a cuban missile crisis part two.

I think starting another cold war would be great for the economy and good for security so russia good police there hemisphere
-
well what did America expect you go to countries near Russia set up your own "missile defense" stuff set up your military might and you get all pissy when other countries do the same. ignorance pure ignorance. you already have warships at sea that could deflect any missle targeting the states but noo you had to go and ruffle feathers across the world. now that you have an even player you are concerned.

Americans, neo-whatevers, the one's that started the war against sex ed. etc..; those folks should be able to figure by now that admin/family x is stoked to be in the biz with the aryan majesty that is Ru$$ia (They had to pull out all their U.S. CEO's from power there first). Ah, but when the electric cars come and implementation of solar pumps so goes that oil-based money laundering scheme, women-hating sub-schemes and monoxide carbon-soot coughs that have polluted the heck out of societies world-wide (Namely the deregulated coast of the closet headquarters de un 'happy warrior' de carajo aka Florida, ground zero again). Do the math, do the trends, Nas is right to get 600K signatures to end the propaganda, he feels for the poor white folks that fall for that crap.
So I've noticed the trend. All the aged porn industry workers, editors etc. They're burning out. 22 year old's kids missing in Florida, dogs smelled death and the creepy Bonet Ramsey cult got off (yeah they never got the dad's hard-drives, go figure) Countless horrible crimes against kids nationwide that MAKE NO SENSE, but only to the devils that profit of the pain and suffering; maddening.
When in Rome, respect your elders, teach the children well and burn it baby! The system that is.
I never walk with fear knowing my brothers and sisters are all on the same page now, waiting for the past to die in it's shallow grave.
Yeah, there's a enough hate to debate.
Until death do us part America.

how the fuck does that work....
Russia has its problems/so does america and i dont think they want beef unless we want to shove it down there throats....
its the same cold war anymore and step back....
its true that Neo-Nazis are on the rise with abt 70,000 supporters but mainstream russia isnt very supportive and things like that are almost normal in that part of the hemisphere -

Hopefully Dana Perino won't be a as dimwitted about this as she was about the actual Cuban Missile Crisis, for instance she might actualy know that it exists.
-
hmmmm this could be just what we need. Didn't the "red scare" really unite the US back in the 50's? IDK I wasn't around then. BRB gonna go ask my dad...
-
Bombers are much easier to shoot down than missles. Even with bombers in Cuba they'd never make it to Florida. Why worry? Let them have thier bombers there. It's just about posturing.

I dont think this should surprise anyone and the fact that this is news on "non current" news mediums shouldnt raise any eyebrows either the news is slowly writing its own last will and testament with convenient politically timed recycled reminders like this one which is squarelly aimed to "shock the sheep" into the shearing area in time for the pending elections
or we are to beleive that nobody in america learns the version of history that they teach in the british education system or that by the time your old enough to vote you would have forgotten all those things that your history teacher was saying because your too busy getting your long term memory replaced by clips from reality tv and whimsical musings from Joel Mchale
lets be truly honest the russians never left cuba they never will and are you surprised last time I checked theres still a quantanamo bay Stronghold so why shouldnt other interests be allowed to protect their interest two words. MANIFEST DESTINY people need I say more and before anyone attacks me for being "anti american " I love america's ideals I dislike however the fact that everyone pretends to not understand what the real motivation is when history has shown us that righteous Indignation is interwoven into the fabric of the nation and any retreat from those values today would be unamerican.-

This sounds more like a "being pissed off contest" rather than an actual "pissing contest" of international proportions. In an age where strategic bombers have a global reach, where they are physically based is about as irrelevant as Matthew McConaughey's next film "project."
Also, I don't think the Russians have as strong a hand in the region as they once did in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Cuba's stability right now rests upon Castro not being dead, and when he does finally shuffle off this mortal coil, the Reds could discover very quickly that they've overstayed they're welcome by about fifty years or so...
And, as logical as Venezuela might sound as a potential jumping off point for future aggression, I don't think even Chavez is stupid (...or brave) enough to bring that kind of serious political, military, and economic heat upon himself by the U.S. Saying that our president is the devil is one thing, but if we stop buying his oil (...or worse, blockade his ports so that no one else, like China for example, gets it either) Hugo could find himself out of a job.
Yeah, this is a non-issue. Although it sounds like a wonderful treatment for the Red Dawn remake... -
Good for Russia. Someone needs to keep American in line.
-
Russia needs to remember her past glory. She had her own say. She was feared. This created a bipolar world which benefited many countries as there were many red lines at that time. Proxy wars were "IN" but outright aggression was "OUT" (exclude Afghan war).
She has been drooling for "capitalist" economy and won't give much to strategic goals. Only a bomber here and a submarine there....
Thank you -
Sounds like the cold war is back on.

They are letting us know it's time to stop trying to rule the world. Someone needs to stop us.

...and that "someone" isn't going to be Russia.
They might like to rattle their rusty sabers every now and again to remind the world that it once was a superpower, but its days of being a significant threat to the US are long past.
Chinese food anyone? -
I wonder what the list of cities would look like...the targets they have in mind.
I think it's time for all governments to stop pretending they are little boys and claiming their's is bigger. The world is far more than a sand box...far more, though that's how it's being treated right now. -
• There is nothing to this but empty threats... and both the US and Russian governments know this. The Russians need to make some noise on the International stage to give themselves some credibility. And the US knows this so they will give them some leeway.
They will never actually attempt to place bombers that close to the US. Here is why.
1. They do not have the equipment or resources to carry out even a limited campaign this far from their homeland ... while yes they can try it would have 0% chance of success. The US wouldn't even need ground forces to counter this. Just the reserve assets of the US Navy and Air Force on the east coast would be enough to prevent this.
2. The Russian military is roughly 1/3rd its size when compared to its pre '90's numbers. Not to mention that the majority of its equipment is about that old as well and technologically has not advanced as far as the US military has thru the 90's to present day. My point being is if push came to shove, Russia would not be able to bring forth the force that it would need to support any type of operation this far from their homeland. That is without resorting to a nuclear option. Which is a pretty safe bet that they are not willing to do?
3. The most important reason why this is just posturing and not a real threat is that if they were really serious about this ABM system that the US was installing then the more logical course of action would be to mass troops on the borders of the countries that we are installing these systems in.
At least that way they have a chance of really effecting a change in policy.-

>Nikita Kruschev launched an audacious and foolhardy
>bid to station nuclear missiles on the Caribbean island.
Apparently the writer of this article is not very informed on the issue.
The Russian bid to station nuclear missiles in Cuba was in response to the US stationing Jupiter missiles in Turkey against the Russians, putting Moscow within 16 minutes reach.
The Americans refused to remove the missiles which led the Russians to reciprocate. Eventually the US agreed to secretly remove the missiles from Turkey.
As a former Pentagon acquaintance admitted, this was a victory for Russia, not the US.
Unfortunately for the Russians, they didn't use this as an opportunity for world wide propaganda very well.
Google 'cuban missile crisis jupiter'
>This is especially true when we consider that the
>proposed US missile shield doesn’t actually bother
>Russia all that much - it’s much more important to the
>Kremlin as an opportunity for Russia to give the US a bit
>of a verbal bashing every now and then.
WHAT evidence does the writer have that the proposed missile shield does not bother Russia???
It has always been the US goal to develop first strike capability without having to suffer a reciprocating strike from Russia. The initial missiles might not prove to be of any danger to Russia and its interests but missiles get upgraded and re-oriented, leading to the possibility of striking ascending missiles. American anti-ballistic missiles are much more effective than most realize and are increasingly getting more accurate.
