I love my bmx because you dont have to switch gears and speed up based on your endurance alone.

Mission Bicycles?? Don't want to sound like bikesnob, but who the heck are these people? I visited their site and there's no info whatsoever on their credentials and experience in the field of frame building.
They do have a whole plethora of color combo options to choose from and we all know that's what really matters. :)

Zack, I actually work from our office in Los Angeles. But, if you are serious about the tour/lunch offer I will most definitely take you up on that next time I'm in SF.

I don't mean to dis your company, but I believe that you are wrongfully using the term custom builder when you should be calling yourselves assemblers instead.

There's no shame in being labeled an assembler. Just look at BMC as a perfect example of a company that was founded for the sole purpose of assembling bikes and nowadays produces some of the most high end carbon frames money can buy.

    not hatin, just sayin....

mcamargo: I get what you are saying, but I very much disagree. None of our customers or potential customers have ever had the mistaken expectation that we are welding frames for them individually. "custom built fixed gear bikes" to them means they get to choose what the bike looks like, which components are used and they have an understanding that we are building the bike specifically for them.

But I also think there is a big misconception about how the bike industry actually works for many of the more savvy bike consumers. For example, the company you cited, BMC, doesn't fabricate their frames at all, a Taiwanese company does. Instead, BMC designs, markets, and sells bicycles / parts and leaves all the fabricating to other companies that are better and cheaper at it than them, just like the majority of bicycle brands in the world.

Hit me up when you are in SF, would love to show you the shop. Hope you like Soul Food.

Or you can literally build your own at the Bike Kitchen for around $150. Used of course.

I'm all for people on bicycles but fixed gear bikes are used on the velodrome, does using it for commuting mean a generation with destroyed joints? I only ride mine around the track at the park- not stop and go in traffic. It would be nice to walk when I'm old.

Bicycles are not like T-shirts, You can't just go buy one from a company you have never heard of...

Or Maybe this Brian McFayden guy can but I would never do such a thing.

Now everyone can be cool! I cant wait until I get mine so I can be a bike messenger! I wanna make mine bright purple with brown handlebars, and then trade in my Gucci bag for a Timbuktu! People will finally love me! Especially when I'm going 40 mph downhill and cant stop! This is WAY BETTER than my Huffy!
