There were two crowning moments during the first night of the 2008 Democratic Convention in Denver. First, Michelle Obama presented the major address on Monday evening, which was a touching and eloquent call for us to “fight for the world as it should be” in order to assure the promise of a better life for all of our children.
Another memorable event was Senator Edward M. Kennedy, struggling with brain cancer, arriving at the convention in a triumphant appearance that evoked 50 years of party history. In his speech to the delegates, Kennedy invoked the parting remarks that he had made at the 1980 Democratic National Convention when he ceded the presidential nomination to Jimmy Carter, promising that “The dream will never die. The work begins anew, the hope rises again, and the dream lives on.”
This article presents a number of stunning photographs, the re-playable live-blog of Monday night's events at the Denver National Democratic Convention and three videos (including Dave Stewart's music video “The Prayer”, as well as the speeches given by Michelle Obama and Senator Edward Kennedy). In addition, it presents a remarkable photo-gallery, which is accompanied by music audio.
