The United States asked Iraq for permission to maintain a troop presence there to 2015, but U.S. and Iraqi negotiators agreed to limit their authorization to 2011, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said.

"It was a U.S. proposal for the date which is 2015, and an Iraqi one which is 2010, then we agreed to make it 2011. Iraq has the right, if necessary, to extend the presence of these troops," Talabani said in an interview with al-Hurra television, a transcript of which was posted on his party's website on Wednesday.

U.S. officials in Baghdad were not immediately available for comment.

I have a feeling about a month after what ever date we pull out, and they are up to their elbows in invading Iranians, and Syrians, they'll want to reconsider.
    I sincerely hope i'm wrong.
We occupied Japan till 53 and Germany till 54 or at least had an oversight presence in Germany till then.
So another 3 or 4 years to help protect them isn't an outrageous amount of time.

Iraq has the right to extend - so, they'll have the right to shorten? right?!

By 2015, we should be able to get all of their oil.

2015? Only if we are complacent and gullible enough to give McCain two terms.

I would be completely shocked if we actually stuck to the 2011 timeline. Something will happen to change the schedule.

2011? That's still far too long.

Any Bush deal can easily be revoked by Obama. Why do you wish for more deaths and destruction in Iraq?

Navy, are you still operating under the delusion that all of the factions in Iraq wil learn to get along if we stay long enough? How long do you think it will take? Korea long? These people have had a cultural and religious clash for over 700 years. They are going to solve their own problems or no one will.
