What will be the New World Order?

When most of us hear the words New World Order typically a vision of Orweillian governments packing citizens into prison cities and controlling them through invasive technologies comes to mind. Few of us ever think of a positive New World Order. Either way, with the rapid pace of technology, global climate change, and a more united world, we are at the brink of a new order the likes this planet has never seen.

What will be the fate of humanity? How will we live, how will we survive, how will we spend our time and what will we focus our energy on? We-magazine.net has written a great article on 10 possible futures. It covers everything from an internet not built up of servers and computers but of human minds, a new level of reality, a future people of nomads, global (non-)governments and ofcoarse cyborgs.

    Humanity is also waking up to a higher consciousness faster than ever as well. What we're really dealing with is a race to consciousness.

    They're essentially trying to prevent the "100th Monkey" from ascending.

    Hmm.. very interesting im hoping for less technology (at least till we find out more about ourselves & why we feel we need things we can already do without the whole techno revolution) and more human consciousness. Mind over matter.

    I always thought the New World Order would be a world without Communism/Totalitarianism/Dictatorships (whatever you want to call USSR type regimes).

    Anyway, if I were to pretend not to be drowning in my own cynicism for a moment, I'd say that I expect the philosophy of the New Millennium will be centered on efficiency and effectiveness. Incredibly complex technology will have an extremely simply interface. It'll be social, but safe. As the population increases, gov't in the US will behave less like a centralized gov't and more like 50 colonies (Cali is already making that move). Etc...

    It will probably be a neck and neck race between the Oblivion brought on by the Cyberpunk future and the Utopia of people progressing to other stages of development.

    The Neocons have made the phrase "New World Order" have negative connotations that only reflect the darkside of that possibility.

    What is forgotten is that is also has a positive side that nations could cooperate in a World Federation that doesn't have to include domination.

    What is finally being realised is what was proposed in the classic movie "The Day the Earth stood still" when Klaatu gave his speech on why he came to Earth and the cost of exporting aggression to other planets.

    As the saying goes "Your freedom of speech ends at the tip of your nose" as long as you don't try to force opinions on anyone else it's fine

    But as soon as people agressivley try to force things on others that's when a governing body has to step in to fend off the agression.

    In the movie they had robots that were supposedly impartial and incorruptible to do the job of policing the population.

    That way those that have self discipline can govern themselves and those that need discipline enforced can learn it from others that stop them before they are allowed to harm others.

    That might be possible to achieve but getting them to be error free and not able to be influenced it a lot tougher job.

    Since even if the companies that built them were found to be reliable enough to do the job correctly then those that did the maintenance on them would have to be trusted not to try and tamper with them

    For a glimpse of what the New World Order will be, turn your Bibles to the chapter called "Revelation" and read it. You'll never look at another Cyberpunk or Post-apocalyptic movie the same way again.
