In the new eco-conscious urban world, cycling to work is a growing trend. Cities are promoting this form of healthy commute by painting bike lanes across towns, and Paris has become the latest city to stock streets with free "public" bicycles for commuters to pick up and drop off at will.

Having worked in the bicycle industry, it's a sad fact that 2/3 of the bikes sold in the U.S. are destined to become "garage trophies".

Used once or twice then never ridden again.

Becoming a fixture in ones garage...

Even with the "trendy" resurgence in bike commuting here due to fuel prices, a majority are still to never see the road again..

We could create an entire transportation infrastructure in a third world country with all the unused bikes here in the U.S.

To all the trophy owners.... Donate your bikes... Do something good...

I'd donate, but I ride my bike everyday.. Sorry..

    Ride on!

I won't be ditching any of my rides anytime soon, but I always make sure to donate the old or discarded parts.

Most of the time my local bike shop will take them and find a good home for the stuff.

There are quite a few organizations out there that would be more than happy to handle the finer details if you were to contact them.

Better to be donated, than to sit with flat tires.
