Airlines may ask us to go on diet

With airlines cutting security and safety measures from onboard and inflight safety, I have to admit that perhaps we will be required to fly with risks for our own safety in the name of saving fuel costs.
This article states the reality of fear that perhaps not just having security screening which allow TSA officials to look at our naked bodies, but now, we'll have to disclose our weight to ticket and gate agents. Is nude flying next ?

I think I'll stop eating those outlandishly generous peanuts inflight to lose some kilos.

I've been on planes where people had to move seats because one side was heavier than the other. But having to disclose our weight to agents? Ridiculous. Pretty soon they'll make you pay extra money if you weigh over 50lbs on domestic flights or 75lbs on international flights. That's rubbish.

I always wondered why the meals were so tiny on airplanes, who would have thought it was an enforced diet! Are they going to double check our weights at check-in?

They already make you strip off some of your clothes and rifle through your baggage at the customs search line, now they're asking for your weight?! It's getting far too personal to go on holiday now. There are some things that others just don't need to know!

This is another example of how state and commerce are interfering in personal and private lives far too much. Disclosing my weight in a hot air balloon I can understand. In a plane? Unnecessary!

It is pretty ridiculous that airlines can be so strict about luggage (particularly Ryanair and their tiny bag measuring trays) but have no restrictions on people who can barely fit into their seats..

Mind you, I'd rather not have to weigh myself everytime I get on a plane so maybe they should just be kinder about the luggage instead. Wait, that makes no sense..

It is a little ridiculous that airlines would make such a big deal about one or two extra kgs of luggage, but don't care if I have lost or gained 3 stones in the past couple of months, but certainly forcing people to disclose their weight or having them pay extra cannot be the answer?

I don't think this will ever take off. Nope. Not gonna fly.

watch this comment being used here, here, here, here and here

Surely they can combine this with little treadmills under each seat so that not only do we have to eat properly, but we will also get to exercise on the plane.

Come to think of it, this will force people especially those who wants to fly to lose weight and be mindful of their diet.

Hmm would that mean frequent flyers will be the sexiest, healthiest people on earth later on?

Why should some some who weighs 150 lbs. pay as much as some one who weighs 350 lbs.?

airlines are just mad they just want to get back at people in some way or form soon they would have statistics of how fat people where in the 70's compare to now excuses .

Maybe the planes themselves should go on a diet... of alternative fuel sources, the prices would go down and our government wouldn't have to bail them out. Or else, LET'S GET NAKED!

Come on here guys, we are riding in a big ass tube 6 miles off the ground doing 600mph while gliding on the thin air, tipping the scales at 700,000lbs. fueled, if they want my weight I'm gladly divulging that info...it's like a trade off, my weight = sweet ride...

these airlines are just getting way too demanding. i have to pay for my luggage, headphones, some water, all while getting shitty service from crank flight attendants.

Honestly, I don't care as long as I get a complimentary in-flight beverage. $3 for water? Really, US Airways???

They should just start charging by the pound while they're at it.

It's completely absurd when people buy two or more airline tickets because they are obese, especially at the price for even one ticket.

Wow. I could see that for some of those little tiny planes where even a little extra weight might be an issue, but it seems a bit much for major airliners to ask.

I don’t know what article some of you guys read but the one I looked at never mentioned a request by any airline to lose weight. In fact the only reference to humans losing weight was left by the author of the piece, and it was at the end, after he wrote an entire report about how airlines around the world are reducing the weight of their airplanes. Key word here is airplanes not people.

That being said we should applaud the airlines for their effort. The world needs lighter and more efficient aircraft. I don’t know how many people have been paying to the news lately but oil is expensive and people are getting fatter by the day.

Elimination of safety measures to decrease cost of fuel. Unethical at best. The idea of weighing in at the ticket counter may just be next. Would the airlines take into account body fat percentage or would there simply be a chart with graphs outlining where your weight should be for your height and age? And, if you are over the recommended airline weight limit for height and age you are then charged an additional fee for each pound of excess weight? Could there be a part of the new weight-fee system that would entail a turn away policy if you do not make the graph? Crazy.
