Larry Blumberg is looking for a few good Jews to move to his corner of the Bible Belt.

Blumberg is chairman of an organization offering Jewish families as much as $50,000 to relocate to Dothan, an overwhelmingly Christian town of 58,000 that calls itself the Peanut Capital of the World. Get involved at Temple Emanu-El and stay at least five years, the group's leaders say, and the money doesn't have to be repaid.

More Jews are...

"The Northeast has a really warped perception of what the South is all about, and I found out it was all wrong," she said. "The South is a wonderful place to be. The people are warm and friendly. There's very little traffic. And best of all, there's no snow."

It really depends on what part of the south you go to. Some places are tolerant, while other places would give you dirty looks and call you a slut for having a black boyfriend. *sigh* I guess all we can do is be patient.

I honestly thought this was some form of joke that I didn't get, but, based on how hard it is to access the Blumberg website right now, I'd have to say otherwise.
This is the only way I can post the front page.
Must be mighty busy with curiosity.

Better putting your money into helping Jews move from Russia back to Israel where they are safer.

They only want them because they think they're the key to Jesus coming back, and that is NOT a joke.

Not but 20 years ago, the sermons they preached about Jews were not so friendly.

I thought it was weird at first.
But upon further investigation- I realized that it's for real. And it kinda makes me smile.
It seems all he wants to do is keep Judaism alive in that community.
I don't see any harm in that. hope it all works out.

Pericles, you have found the odd bird of the day to be sure. I am certain the sentiment and idea behind this is quite nice, but it just plays weird. Perhaps the entire purpose is to create a mass conversion.

If I lose my claim with Social Security, I may just have to convert to Judaism and buy plenty of mosquito repellant, and check into flood insurance.

How's this for an idea? Somebody please make the same offer for disabled fathers of 5 that live in $2,000 trailer homes, with a saint of a wife slaving to support us with a 16k gross salary at Wal-Mart and have to skip a months worth of needed meds for Christmas, or to get my son a letter jacket. Hope that movement begins someday.

I would not be surprised if it is a plan to speed up the return of Christ, as so many weird sects kind of believe that America is the choosing nation of God. Really its the Jews in Jerusalem that will lay ground for World Redemption.
