That's actually quite impressive, I hope that other news organizations pick up on this one.

Sadly, even though this technology exists, we probably won't be using it for another 50 years.

booo this sucks.... I thought we were going to Drill baby Drill

Pretty much, here is another one. The idea on running on Water is great, but running on Sea Water would create Fresh Water as well.

WOW, the Oil Companies run Current.com? 36% Voted Down. Who could be so dumb? or paid.

Well, this is true, 30 years ago, a Filipino guy Mr. Daniel Dingle promoted this to the government in the Philippines. He even drove this hydrogen powered car around Manila.

He has proven that it is possible but unfortunately the government didn't support him.

I would love to see Japanese succeed on this one.

You were right petarro, I don't understand why 33% voted the story down. It's either they work from the oil companies and/or ignorant about wonders of science and technology.

here you go T. Boone Pickens..looks like you're water rights may be the next "oil" fields!

45% of the world is in drought. Over one billion people don't even have adequate potable water for sanitation and to drink and live. I for one do not want water running cars when it should be going to people.

@JanforGore, this alleged solution claims to run on ANY water, potable or non-, including seawater.

using seawater should not affect any sources of fresh water which might or might not be available for human consumption.

outside of being harder to handle because of its corrosive nature, seawater should be so much cheaper than fresh water that fresh water could not compete in this market as a "fuel."

what's still missing from all these articles, posts and claims is any kind of link to explain how the thing works and how much energy goes into the radio beams or whatever that they're using to break up the water into something to burn in the engine. lacking that information, i'm not impressed or convinced.

at any rate, if the ONLY by-product is "fresh water" [which would be the engine's exhaust], J4G, you're getting water vapor back into the air as it's result, and if that turns into rain, the water-poor areas of the earth will have a LARGER supply, not less.

so this could be a GOOD thing....

did you see the size of the car? that technology has got a long way to go before it could replace petrol/diesel. still its a brilliant idea and i hope it does one day become successful

sweet now we can use ever growing salt water.

I want one, but wait before i rush off, how much is one and whats the catch?

I'm sure this technology still requires many years of development to be perfected, but this is certainly a sign of cleaner technology to come. These engineers can now creat hydrogen cars; however, an outside source of energy (often fossil fuels) is needed to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, and the recombination of the two elements creating water is what supplies energy to these cars. But I'm still quite optimistic since scientists everyday are finding ways to make solar, wind, and other renewable energy more efficient, so we can one day replace the fossil fuels part of the equation with renewable energy

    Remember Stan Meyer?

    http://waterpoweredcar.com/stanmeyer.html

I don't know if corporate bigwigs and oil companies who were intimidated by his creation poisoned him or not, but I wouldn't rule it out...I'm sure they're greedy enough. Technology like this has been around for a while, it just seems that it's being withheld by 'special interests' who think they'll start losing money.

    I think it's a great idea.

They said it was impossible to convert an ordinary car into a water powered car, for a couple hundred bucks... well eat me again!!!

using freshwater would be silly and saltwater wouldn't be of much use unless you lived near the ocean. instead I recommend using gray water or captured rainwater. I wonder if piss would work too...that'd be awesome!

@colmor... thanks, anyway, but i prefer pizza...

one quote is, "i'm saving 20% on fuel bill".... in the two-car test, one used four times as much petrol as the other. how does that compare or figure?

they also say, repeatedly, that it's a gasoline powered engine with hydrogen added to the intake air flow.

    it's NOT "water" or "hydrogen-POWERED".

augmented, improved, yadda yadda, but not powered.

AND "some time in the future" running a car on hydrogen will happen.

oh, by the way, that little hydrogen generator they use DOES draw some power off the engine, via the alternator, so that even lowers the potential IMPROVEMENT in gas consumption a little, too.

there ain't no such thing as a free lunch... in economics, physics OR thermodynamics.

    enjoy your laughter.

they're still not handing that car over to a major testing lab or even a decent car magazine for testing yet, are they?

    data, data, data.

We need to make a car that runs on crap. There's more than enough in the world, heck, you could make it at home for free!

    Image...

Too bad it violates the laws of physics and even Popular Mechanics, which routinely runs stories on far out and barely feasible technologies, calls the car "Rubbish". It's a pity a reputable news source takes the claim as fact without any investigation.
