Back in April of this year, the Ninth Circuit Court decided that searching laptops without reason is well within the law, and does not violate any Fourth Amendment Rights.
So wait. Now I am confused. The Ninth Circuit says that TSA Agents can search my papers, effects, laptops, iPods, iPhones and other electronic devices without probable cause, but the Fourth Amendment says that they cannot. Unless the probable cause is "Everyone is a Terrorist". Then it kind of makes sense.
At least they have to have reasonable suspicion to check my large intestines, that is comforting.
Don't worry though! Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) introduced a new bill to help with this! Well, not so much help, but at least you will get a receipt for the expensive piece of electronic equipment that the TSA Agent, who makes just more than minimum wage, is illegally seizing from you.....

this sucks especially when its become more and more viable to travel to countries other than the united states and still get the same standard of life . this will be a negative for the states in terms of foreign investments and foreign talent coming into the country.

...what about life from outside Earth......can you imagine coming here with only the best intentions....and finding the only way you can try to communicate is with a very outdated computer system....and knowing if you are caught....you will be probed....and not in a fun way.....Golen Ruler...Richard....

This is such bull sh*t...
Aren't we supposed to be "fighting terrorism" to "preserve our freedoms".
It would seem that fighting terrorism and taking away personal freedoms go hand in hand...
Scary how much I'm reminded of the movie "V for Vendetta"

I have not had to return from abroad since before 9/11 but I must say customs and immigration have never been a very friendly bunch. They never made me feel welcome even when presenting a US passport. This is in direct contrast to the countries I had visited that always made me feel welcome.
