Apparently the World Health Organisation have been left fuming over new e-cigarettes that have come in as a way to get around smoking bans and allegedly to help smokers quit, as they claim to cite the organisation's support in their advertising, when no such support have been given. The WHO are concerned that these e-cigarettes could in fact even be more harmful as they have not been properly tested and regulated.

What the hell is an e-cigarette? I get that it does not contain real tobacco and that it does not actually burn, but where does the smoke come from? I am sure it is not very healthy to inhale plastic either, so no wonder the WHO are upset.

"E-cigarettes usually come as a steel tube containing liquid nicotine and other chemicals. Smokers suck on the tube without lighting up and the tube releases a mist that is absorbed into the lungs. The makers would have you believe that the nicotine hit works somewhat like patches and that the 'holding and sucking' action [I know, I know] helps alleviate the usual withdrawal symptoms."

I don't understand why you would replace a real ciggarette with an e-ciggarette for someone who is trying to quit smoking. They both have nicotine in them, which only makes it worse. It's obviously not going to help smokers quit. Plus, there hasn't been any testing on them.

I never heard of an e-cigarette until now and someone mentioned the i-cigarrette is the new thing. I think I will stick to the old school j-cigarette.

actually i have been looking into this thing. my friend has one, and i think it is a good way to get a nicotine fix without actually smoking a cig. however, the websites all say that it is not approved for smoking cessation, and they are not marketed as such.
