What is their policy on male victims or children over 12???

They help all victims of abuse - male or female.
Also - they have an extensive out reach to young men on the Rosebud and surrounding areas - as males approx 21 (and slightly younger) are the highest mortality in the suicide attempts & crisis on the Rosebud.

Tillie Black Bear and the White Buffalo Calf Woman Society doesn't discriminate when it comes to males.

And unless the crime is violent, the believe in education rather than condemnation.

Those who commit violence acts must first pay for the crime.

They realize there are male victims - but that is much less common than the abuse of females.

Why do you ask?
Do you know a male or young male who needs help?

Many shelters do not allow young boys over 12 in their walls and it leads to them going back to abusive homes. I personally am a victim of abuse. The police, the courts, and society shuns the idea that women abuse men. Generally men dont file charges. It took me 30 minutes to even get an incedent report when my ex assaulted me in front of two children, and the courts refused to take it into consideration.

regjoeschmo - You are correct in what you write - and the White Buffalo Calf Woman Society does care about males who are DV victims - or have other concerns.

While the overwhelming majority of DV is against women (and a vast amount of the cases are very legitimate) - it is true there are female perpetrators and male victims of DV.
And like women, but likely for different reasons - do not report the crimes.

The statistics do not mirror reality, and all recent studies tell us that in relationships women are just as likely to be violent as men. Problem is when a women gets violent and a man reacts he is charged, this is why so many more women are seen as the victims. State law in Mass states that the police must arrest the person who could do more damage and/or make more money regardless of who is actually commiting the crime. Men also do not normally press charges or even tell people about being victims of DV. When they do so they are shunned.

Just as 80% of all DV cases get dismissed, this does not mean all 80% of them are false. Statistics are flawed in this way and we can only take this issue on a case by case basis.

It's a lofty (but worthy) goal.
But I think you are bringing awareness to the issue of DV against men.
