As punishment for going bankrupt in America, we will never again--never again--own a home or have a credit card that isn't savings-backed or have any of the nods of acceptance the "good" credit bearers have in this nation. People will look at that bankruptcy and judge us unfit--look down their noses at us and decide we are losers from now until forever. We got sick, and we went broke, and we are no longer among the valued folks in this nation.
But today, my U.S. senator's office argued with me about how Wall Street needs this bailout to protect me. Bullshit. There is nothing in this for me. I have lost everything. I will never have it back, no matter if I work 100 hours a week, or try 1,000 times harder than I did before. Nothing I can do will erase my failure in getting sick.
Next week, though, armed with my money from the bailout, the Wall Street leaders and the government leaders who now judge me unfit will sit fat and happy, sipping fine wine and eating paté and giggling about the next trip to Europe or an evening at the club. Their lives will remain soft and pure and without the nasty judgments I have to endure every day. My bailout will have funded their greed and smug disdain for people like me.
It stinks to high heaven in America today. I understand damn well that they've mismanaged this into a point of collapse, and that without a fix from somewhere, there are dire things waiting to unfold worldwide.
But by God, no one was there to lift me up or put me back on my feet. And I will die without a home. I will die without ever regaining what I lost. And I will die with the bastards who I am bailing out today looking down their noses at me like I am a piece of garbage because I cannot shop at Neiman Marcus for my clothes or carry a Fendi bag.
I am sick to my stomach after talking with Durbin's office. I can only hope that the polite and respectful response from Obama's staff will reflect how I will be treated under a President Obama. Else, I am not sure staying alive under this sort of domestic and economic terrorist assault on my humble position in life is worth enduring.
This bailout reflects a much deeper and more difficult problem--a very fundamental disdain for democracy. You see, anyone in government who believes this is the way to treat the vast majority of your citizens certainly does not believe in the common good or the value of individuals within a democratic system.
We are just depositors in their bank accounts--they need us to foot the bill for their party. And we're not invited to any table at all. We can pick up the trash.

This is exactly why we need to lobby for HR676. So this travesty doesn' t keep happening to decent hardworking people. So a little boy doesn't die of an abcessed tooth because his parents couldn't afford a dentist or a doctor. What happened to this person should never happen in a country that spends 10 billion a month on a damned war. What is wrong with us that we allow our legislators to treat us this way? They work for us. We have to start demanding they do the job for us.

(10) Substance abuse treatment services.
(11) Chiropractic services.
(12) Basic vision care and vision correction (other than laser vision correction for cosmetic purposes).

Congress works for the corporations. Watch this latest release. Our health care system is terribly flawed and designed to make the sick depend on poison medicine and enrich those in power.

I saw Flash of Genius and understand (though I knew this before) that big business can make things far more difficult than they need to be and bully their way into getting what they want....like an idea that was someone else's....theirs.
I also think that Banks are villains. They screwed up (the government) in allowing them to do what they want with money making it really difficult for people to go without being in debt.
Medical care is not perfect anywhere in this world. It won't matter if the government gives America healthcare like someone else in this world. There will still be horrible problems it will not and cannot solve. Our only hope is that it's better than what we have here and it WILL NOT put us in further debt.

I am wondering why we haven't heard this earlier. This was one of my first reactions. If we can socialize the banks and homes, surely medical care could fit in too?
And if capitalism was working in this country, wouldn't another cheaper more efficient lender come out and start profiting off this? Where is the capitalism?

So true, so true.
The fact is, even if you didn't get sick, depending where you lived, you may have come under a sort of assault without even knowing it. An assault designed to make things just a little harder, waste just a little more of your time, waste just a little more of your money.
You may not have noticed it, but if you fought just a little harder and overcame the obstacles placed in front of you, you may have come under assault from an ever increasing number of directions to stop you.
You may not have noticed it, but if you were especially adept at overcoming the obstacles from an ever increasing number of directions, you may not have noticed that there were plenty of people in public service ready and eager to stop you once and for all - by any means necessary.
You may have not noticed it, but banks, credit cards, lending institutions, large corporations, oil companies, the medical industry, etc., etc., have been making lots of money while you working those extra hours to pay for it.
You may not have noticed how quickly products wore out or broke requiring you to repurchase time and again. You may not have noticed the constant problems with Microsoft Windows disrupting work flow - reducing your productivity - reducing your income - reducing the free time you enjoyed.
You may not notice what I said.
