He makes a lot of sense. It is unimaginable that this young girl was so coached to give such an inflamitory and upsetting comment, and that our news organizations eagerly parroted it without checking any facts. (Not that I bought into it even at the time, but so many did obviously.)

i completely disagree with the first line of this post

Verotchka's submissions are always dead on. I love the right wing neocon ability to manage to manufacture "reality" -- The right wing Hollywood actor Ronald Regan was a male wind up version of the same toymaker who came out with Palin. Look how they took a loser like McCain who destroyed (crashed) four American Warplanes before he got himself shot down a "hero". The North Vietnamese should have given him Ace pilot status.

Fear and ignorance have been their tools for way too long. Awareness is, and will always be, our greatest tool against ego. At least I think that's so.

If the US were an 'individual' it would have already been put away in an asylum.
Having grown up in one of the most conservative, extremist and reactionary regions in the US, I saw the symptoms up close and personal --paranoia (first of commies, now terrorists) and megalomania.
It's fertile ground for demagogues. We were warned by Sinclair Lewis (It Can't Happen Here) and H.L. Mencken who predicted that one day a complete and utter moron would occupy the White House.
There were other warnings, of course, but Mencken and Lewis were dead on target.

I, at one time believed that arrogance and naivety was restrictive to just the Bush/Cheney presidency, but I was wrong. I have looked back over history and tried to find another time when Washington was so completely out of touch with the main stream, and the American people were scared to speak out, in fear of being targeted by the very body they had elected to represent their interests.
A little known Senator from Wisconsin decided one day that America was inundated with Communists and Nazi spy's. By the time Joseph McCarthy was finished with his reign of terror, thousands of Americans were "Black Listed" as Communist subversives.
McCarthy ran his one man campaign of terror against main street America unbridled and unhampered by our own Government, and supported by the American People, simply because he preyed on the fears that he had created.
For the past eight years we have been subjected to the greatest campaign of fear doctrine since McCarthy. We promised ourselves to never let it happen again, yet here we are over fifty years later and were still allowing the Bush administration and McCain's involvement in their decisions to shape a false public image of the security of our nation and the ability of their critics to guide us, calling there critics "un-American".
In 1957, we collectively said "enough is enough". In 2008, we again need to say, "enough is enough".

The people of the U.S. repudiated reality during the fifties and sixties, something one had only to listen to the radio, watch TV, and read the paper to realize. Reality became something determined politically (feminism, for instance), rather than science or logic.
Not long ago, right here on Current, someone argued that logic has no place in debate (that's stated almost verbatim, by the way).
A few minutes ago, on television, a woman said indignantly. "Someone should have been able to find us a mortgage."
The huge house she and her husband "own" is being foreclosed upon, of course.

Edgar in the running for ones that have set America back....the truth about him Will probably never come out..but there is plenty already.....and it went on for fifty years.....Golden Ruler....Will

In Frank Baum`s novel The Wizard of Oz we travel along The Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy, doggie Toto, scarecrow, tin man and the lion to find their destiny only to find out it was all in the mind and that their beliefs were dashed at the end by lies.
Even in the early thirties the subject of lies were prevelant as they are now so the US government believe a precedent was set and carry on with their disinformation

WiilRogers, you are exactly right. The fraud of ownership is the carrot in front of the jackass the rich use to keep the commoner providing for the security and luxury.
Fidel Castor must be laughing his old revolutionary butt off right about now. The Land of the Free has become the Land of the Fee.

"Americans & Reality" That's like comparing Bu$h to a Scientist, McCain to Martin Luther King Jr or Cheney to the Dalai Lama...
For the most part, there's NOTHING there...
