This piece is a melancholy paean to the many people who are coping with feelings of distress and enduring suffering in the present financial situation, with the recent stock market crash and spate of bank closings. A number of impressive photographs are presented, which subtly contrast the various experiences of the wealthy, the middle class and the poor in the face of financial distress.
The photographs are complemented by a heart-rending, but subdued video, with background music provided by Mavis Staples singing “Hard Times.”
