A just-released poll conducted by Lake Research Partners shows the yes side leading by four percentage points. Currently, 47% of voters support the banning of gay marriage in California, while 43% would vote against a ban, according to the poll.

During an "Emergency LGBT Media Briefing," Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California and a member of the No on 8 executive committee, stated: "We are going to lose this ... if we don’t raise the money we need to compete on the airwaves."

The poll showed a major shift from recent polling results that claimed opponents of the ban, Proposition 8, had a five-point advantage among voters. The reason for the shift, Kors explained, is simple: Yes on 8 is raising more money, and its most recent ad campaign has been highly effective.

Though Lake Research Partners' Celinda Lake said studies show the No on 8 ad campaign has proved to be effective with voters, Kors said the additional money raised by Yes on 8 has allowed ban supporters to get their message out to a wider audience.

On the conference call, Smith and Kors put it a little more plainly -- No on 8 needs to raise at least $10 million in the next 28 days. That money, they say, will be used to directly combat the Yes on 8 ad campaign's strategic advantages. Smith stressed that No on 8 is having great success reaching young voters through grassroots and Internet viral marketing campaigns, but that more money is needed to compete with television advertising.

I was so happy on the day that marriage equality was reached in California. I can't imagine how I'd feel if prop 8 was passed and all of the rights that we gained were removed. Its up to all my fellow Californians who oppose prop 8 to get the message out that prop 8 shouldn't be passed. I've already got some of the people I know to vote against it (parents, other family members, etc), but I still have work to do on that end. Anyway I just hope that everyone who is against prop 8 will work to show people that prop 8 is something that is completely unfair/discriminatory and not needed.

Imagine how many unfortunate people (sick, homeless, indigent, war veterans, etc.) that could benefit from the churches and "family values" people funding this incessant onslaught of a private human basic equality that Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln would have approved of. Talk about "Can't see the forest through the trees" type of thinking. Do you really think that all of the donations to these religious institutions were meant to oppress people or help them??. Churches need to be Taxed.!!!! Hopefully this new movie Religulous will show how stupid, ignorant, and crazy these fanatical and fundamental religious zealots are and how dangerous they are becoming to society. Maybe there will be a shift where nonreligious rational and empathetic people will turn the tables and question the moral and ethical acts of religious people who are obsessed with other peoples sex lives and business in general. Also, it's interesting that these are the supporters of Sarah Palin who said "Government, get out of my way" and "government has gotten to large". Typical contradictory stances as with almost every other issue they are supposedly concerned about.

It's sad that these millions of dollars are invested into hating a group of people, and into self-defense. Just let people BE. If humans were smart we would be using that money to end world hunger.

Would someone Please explain to me how marriage inside of a "Religion" is linked to Marriage civially?

People need right to care for each other, visit in hospitals etc. that is a legal question. They doesn't mean a perticular religion has to agree with it

Thanks again, JanaPokana, for another good post. Once again, what I would add is that if people want to see hatred and bigotry defeated, they need to go to Equality California's website at www.eqca.org and make a generous donation. Also, vote No on Proposition 8 on election day and encourage all of your decent, fair-minded friends to do the same.
