Rumours have surfaced that the new Macbook model will possibly have a substationally lower price tag than current models. While the current range has to cost at least $1099 (around £634) for the basic Macbook, the new range is though to go down to around $800 (£461). However, the information is so far only based on US sources, so there is no info about how this'll work in the UK. I really hope the price does drop though - guess I'll wait till the new model comes out before I get a new one anyhow.

And it's still twice the cost of the same thing in a non-Mac. Apple is good, don't get me wrong, but it's not twice-the-price good.

I think "cheapen" is the wrong choice of words here. Maybe "lower the price of" is more accurate.

If prices drop I'm going to say so will the quality of it. Lower ram, hard drive etc... 15" screen min. Cheapen is probably the right word as it will cheapen the look and feel i love the look of the black one atm but i just feel if its cheaper then maybe you know they have a better new product ready to come out or they are ripping out a load of stuff and reducing tech somewhat.

Before the apple of everyone's eye, the Macbook, starts rotting like the Big Apple, they had better start selling and pulling as much cash as they can before their cash-till dries up!

hmm...cheaper how? Less plastic? Smaller screen? I don't trust it...it smells fishy....not the new macbook, which obviously smells of...apples?

Yeah I definitely agree the title needs to be changed.
