The head of the country's tax agency, Jose David Cabello, said the chain had inconsistencies in its accounts.
The 115 branches in Venezuela were closed from Thursday to Saturday.

Insane! Imagine not being able to get a portion of McDonald fries in the entire country! I am sure some people will absolutely love this, but I would find it rather upsetting ...

why not just fine them?
-
LOL! GOOD!
-
Jana makes an interesting point but I am pleased. There're far better things to eat out there than MacDonald's fries (yeuch, they're not even made of potatoes..).
-
Amazing: government regulation of the McDonald's machine.
Now we need the American government to start putting the chokehold on Ronald McDonald: increase worker wages, allow workers to organize unions, and actually tell the chain what they can and cannot put into our food.

Shut 'em down, I say.
-
I hope they close their doors for good. McDonalds is the perfect example of corporate greed and corruption....
Hook kids while they're young w/ toys, create such a convenience that people get too lazy to make their own food, and provide the lowest quality nutrition possible to create burger-brained zombies....
Do your children a favor Venezuela, shut them down for good.
-
Man, the corporate world is taking punches from all over the place. Viva la revolution!

Every time I see news on how fast food is bad, etc... I often wonder why they have yet to make a 'fast food' chain that actually serves good for you food. The entire menu is healthy and there are no 'super-sizes', juice and water instead of sodas, and more vegetarian options. It really can't be too difficult and I'm sure extremely popular in most health conscious areas.

shut em down!! McDonalds deserves no breaks! Go vegan! (or at least a bit more reasonable than McDumbass)
-
Venezuela is day by day becoming into Cuba, it now themselves kicking out American companies. Just because McDonalds is fatty food it does not mean you should support Chavez actions over a business.
-
This makes so much sense
I respect Hugo Chavez
He's positioning himself as a player on the global stage and destabilizing American interests in our hemisphere.
This is a lesson to all the idiots over the last 8 years who blindly followed the rhetoric of the right. Has any of this made us safer or stronger?
You be the judge

Well it's hard for people in Venezuela to get excited about the McDonalds' Monopoly game stickers, when Hugo wins them all...

I gather that many of you think that the reason the "Instituto de Rentas" (Venezuelan IRS) shut down the McDonald's Franchises is because there is a personal vendetta between Hugo Chavez and the US govt.
That is not so. These people were told that their taxes were not properly filed, since they did not meet their deadline they were shut down, for two days!. In Fact Hugo Chavez may have not known about this (since some of you tend to think he runs the country by himself).
Although I find this risible, and I believe there is better choices for food in Venezuela than McDonalds, this is far from a political move that some medias try to portrait.
