The court found that the state's law limiting marriage to heterosexual couples discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation. The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry.
Eight same-sex couples sued in 2004, saying their constitutional rights to equal protection and due process were violated when they were denied marriage licenses.

Finally, some good news! Let's hope the other states - and the rest of the world - gets a grip and follows their example soon!

Good for them. I'm happy that more states are realizing that marriage equality is a right that is meant for everyone not just those who are heterosexual.
-
Finally, another state that allows rights provided under our Constitution for our American citizens. What is left now it to convince the courts in other states in overturning such theological laws which strip their rights as fellow Americans.
Congrats to Connecticut as well! :)

Woohoo!!! I always knew Connecticut was a good place. :)

Woo Hoo Connecticut, finally some encouraging news in an otherwise discouraging news day...

Way to go Nutmeg State!

you shouldnt have to write on a piece of paper that two people can or cant be married thats bull shit. i thought the government wasnt supposed to delegate how you live your daily life. why some people oppose same sex marriage boggles my mind. marriage isnt an institution it started as a way to keep the inheritance inside the family. if your so worried about marriage then focus on the real problem divorce.

Omg we're spreading ;)

Good news. Governments, state or federal, shouldn't be taking the role of priests or religious scholars.
Marriage is not the property of Christianity. Marriages/ civil unions are a legal issue. It doesn't get any simpler than that. -

good job Connecticut! Now lets just hope Prop 8 doesnt pass in California.
Common California, do you want to get shown up by Connecticut?! I thought we were supposed to be the progressive state!

What? I say that is bs. People are starving and honey bees are collapsing, trees are being murdered by the thousands, polar bears are drowning, there are children living in Americans trash, fish are being over fished, jelly fish are taking over the oceans, animals are going extinct, the economy is slipping into depression, wars are going on and
all these people are worried about is being able to sign a document saying that they can legally be homosexual? WHO CARES!! If you want to do it then do it. Whatever. Now the government gets to make even more money off you guys. What an accomplishment.. If they can legally do this then I definitely should be able to smoke marijuana anytime I want. This is getting ridiculous. Americas priority seems to be backwards.-

Followin' the leader.....
-
It's not about following the leader. It's about civil rights for all citizens in this SECULAR nation. Allowing gay people to have civil unions does NOT mean that Christian churches will suddenly have to marry them.
I don't know why so many people get legal issues and religious issues mixed up. It's so damned simplistic it makes me want to vomit. The only reason gay marriage is being treated as anything but the non-issue it is, is the fact that politicians can use it go get votes/ charge their base. They are using ignorance to gain power.
I am personally sick and tired of it getting played over critical issues, like the war, the environment, the economy, etc...you know, things that involve EVERYBODY. -
man, Connecticut is so gay.
