Postage problems snag absentee ballots for Nov. 4 election

Calvin Justice has a piece of advice for voters mailing in their ballots for the Nov. 4 election.

“You better put more than one stamp on it,” the Highland Village man said Thursday.

That’s despite assurances from the U.S. Postal Service that absentee ballots, which are larger in size than standard envelopes, only take one stamp. And despite area postal carriers being instructed to deliver absentee ballots regardless of how much postage is on the envelope.

Mr. Justice said his wife, Jean, attempted to mail off her ballot last week with a first-class stamp. Days later, the oversized envelope came back requesting an additional 20 cents. Mr. Justice said they added a 20-cent stamp and mailed it again.
