1200 people since 1937? That's not very many, really. That's an average of 71 a year. The article said only 39 jumped last year and 19 so far this year, so the numbers are declining. Can't we think of better things to spend money on?

I think it is really a waste of taxpayers' money putting up nets below the bridge. If people intend to die, and they cannot do it at the Golden Gate Bridge, they will find other places to commit their acts. Anyway, lesser people are choosing the iconic bridge to say their last goodbyes. There are so many skyscrapers around to choose their flights.
