You can send a message direct to the campaigns by signing at this site. Tell both Obama and McCain campaigns that their misrepresentation of "clean coal" is only hurting the progress we should be making on the climate crisis. It is we who must set the agenda, and the agenda now to save our planet and ourselves is renewable energy.

From the site:

During the Vice Presidential debate, both Senator Biden and Governor Palin touted their support for "clean coal". But both presidential campaigns and Congress are missing the point: Conventional coal-burning power plants are the leading cause of global warming pollution in the United States. "Clean Coal" is a myth--a contradiction in terms. Coal companies claim they can develop coal plants at some point in the distant future that will capture and sequester carbon pollution. But carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) is unproven and exorbitantly expensive.

We need real solutions, not coal industry myths. Use the form below to send a message to both Presidential campaigns: We need clean, green energy now!

What the hell is "clean coal"? There is no such thing as " clean coal". STOP TRYING TO BRAIN WASH AMERICANS! These ties need to be broken. We need to stop draining the Earth's blood. The Earth needs it more then we do. WE have wasted enough time, enough lives, enough trees, enough coal. Leave whats left for Mother Nature to heal her self. It's not like we can fill up everything we have dug up and we have no other planet that we can live on. Why are you all doing this? How can you be so absent minded when it comes to the most important planet in the galaxy? Humans are so super smart now, we can create anything that is healthier, more reliable, safer, cleaner, that doesn't have to be used from the war against Mother Nature. I wish I had the chance to talk to Obama. Maybe when he becomes President.

Clean Coal = no such thing. Clean Energy = better for all of us. Unless your profiting off unsafe practices that affect the entire world; your greedy, irresponsible, arrogant, unethical days are numbered. We need more GREEN jobs in America and I think Barack Obama is on the right track on this issue. :) However, both are clearly mistaken when they tout clean coal. I wonder who will be the first to recognize this...

First its amazing how everyone is an expert, The use of Clean Coal is a temporary measure until the alternative fuels can be achieved in quantity enough to change completely over. Folks unless you would like to turn off Current tv and all the vast devices we seem to have,we need electricity, be real, Yes coal can burn allot cleaner , and way more than volcano eruption that happens form time to time. Burn coal, I am tired of my energy bill and heating fuel bill, Can't wait to "middle class" of this community group have to raise a family and pay bills. Yes I am being presumptuos, oh well, spelling, CC

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CLEAN COAL!!!

    PERIOD!!!

Even if you clean up the smokestacks, and capture all the CO2 with butterfly nets----coal STILL comes from stripmines. THE most damaging thing we can do to the earth, and our water.

Getting rid of coal is quick, easy, inexpensive and does not require a great deal of change to the current system. In the long run considering handling and shipping and environmental damage it will cost less NOT to use coal.

Here is how to replace coal as an energy source:

McSame is just pathetic. But every time I hear Obama say off shore drilling or clean coal before mentioning sustainable energy options as an afterthought, if we're lucky, I just cringe. What don't these guys get about fossil fuel usage becoming extinct? Oh yeah. All those oil company political contributions candidates need in order to become electable. This is as a sad fact of campaign financing when we're ironically trying to get a candidate into office that will change this incestuous relationship.

I would feel more comfortable with Barack if he would at least talk about our various energy options when they could be the cornerstone of his vision of CHANGE-addressing both our economic & energy woes. At least acknowledge that the elements surrounding us-solar, wind, water & thermal- are readily available to develop & distribute sustainable energy to the masses that have been held hostage by the energy companies for far too long.

Ya that's right the coal fuel and energy companies have us over the barrel pardon the pun. But ignorance isn't going to get us anywhere. Living in rural America making your food and lots of the rest of the worlds we need cheap fuel. That picture of a smoke stake is 95% condensation and thermal condensation ( I am being overly genreous as the polutants is allot smaller than that). We the USA have the largest inventory of coal lets use it. Yes I seen strip mines and they became beautiful meadows in the regrowth time. I was on the Soil District for Conservation for 6 years, what on the land have you done,? I was voted Conservation of the year for my practices of conservation. I know allot of the facts and fiction. I even worked in a open pit copper mine, my uncle retired from their. What I am getting at is there is so much emtional political crap as an answer to our problems. And no hard facts except what you hear on your new channel in 5 minutes, Shock drop news. Did you know the population not to long ago was 3 billion people now over 6 billion, they all want to be warm and fed. Stop the population growth and than I will talk energy until than we will have to wait until the technology gets us a way from fosil fuels, until than its not going to kill us but war or more likely a influenza super bug transported by to many people and migrating birds will do more harm than anything you can think of. I would love to use hydrogen, but just can't take what we have off the table just to make you feel better with no definitive facts beside the earth is warming a degree, Like I said a volcano or two solar flare could cause a castropy of huge proportions. Get educated and do something beside breath learn and change by working on a solution, Best Regards CC Drill Drill Drill or they will, China Russia any other country will but not us, off our own shores.

I submitted a form, and I also told one of my professors.
If the candidates actually utilize this tool, then people might think government listens to the populous

Also there is a study showing that should the deep ocean temperature rise more than 9-10 degrees, then the frozen methane clathrates embedded on the ocean floor could dislodge releasing massive amounts of combustible, greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The Theory states that this would result in a cataclysmic chain reaction destroying most life. Perhaps a few microbes and protests would manage to survive but advanced multicellular life could very well be exterminated. It's hypothesized this 'clathrate gun' triggered a mass extinction event in the Permian-Triassic period.
