Fire erupted on the slopes of Angel Island on Sunday night, prompting fire crews from several Marin County agencies and United States Coast Guard personnel to be dispatched to the state park.
At 9:55 p.m., the fire was estimated at 10 acres by firefighter Ian Adams of Marin County Fire Department.
"We don't have much, but it's about 10 acres and there's a power line down," Adams said. "We're still trying to get crews there. They are just starting to get to the island." Adams said the crews are from Southern Marin, Tiburon and Marin County Fire, 50 to 100 personnel. The firefighters were being ferried to the docks on the north side of the island.
Speaking to KTVU television, Chief Ken Mossocco said there was one engine on the island and three more were being ferried to the island. Fireboats from Tiburon, Sausalito and the U.S. Coast Guard were sent to the island.

Minutes passed as I watched the small fire spread west. During around 9:30 the fire was incredibly large, with giant eruptions of flame when the Eucalyptus trees caught on fire. The eruptions looked like sunspots and with binoculars was a site to behold.

Angel Island is pretty fantastic. It is the only time I've ever gone camping, and had a panoramic view of a gorgeous city as my "scenery" to look out over. Beautiful.
As long as the fire doesn't damage any of the historic structures on the island, the beauty of the place won't be affected. Sure, the burn marks aren't super pretty, but it'll be good fertilizer for the plants that grow back. The shrubbery wasn't the beauty of the island, in my opinion at least.

I was there once when I was 8 and I really enjoyed the place but I hate to say it, its our own fault. Controled burns are the way to go otherwise you get fires like these and other large infernos out there in the west.

We saw the smoke still billowing this morning flying out of SFO. On an eerily clear day, it looked like its own island of fog.
Must have been lots of wildlife with no where to go.
