The Association of Lebanese Industrialists say that Israel, by marketing its own brands of the traditional dishes, is costing its members millions of dollars a year, The Independent reported.
The action does have a precedent. In 2005, the European Court ruled that only feta cheese made in Greece can use the name.
Given relations between Israel and Lebanon, the dispute has a political dimension. Rami Levy, eating at a Jewish hummus restaurant in Jerusalem, was philosophical.
"Everyone copies something from the other and then adds something of their own. It's the same in food as in music," he said. "But let them fight about food. It's a lot better than fighting about territory."
Restaurant owner Itzhak Rachmo, whose family moved to Israel from Syria, was angry.
"Because they can't create planes and guns and atomic weapons, they are trying to latch onto something so stupid," he said.

Sorry I haven't been on that much! You know school!
But I thought this was an interesting story.
I hope all of you are doing well!

Seems like anything to do with Israel that is not positive is knocked down by wimpy cowards afraid to identify themselves. (see the % rating above) Anything true that puts Israel in a bad light they come out in force....true sock puppets. Nevertheless, the movement to bring out the ugly truth about Israel is getting stronger by the day! Thats a shame it has to happen on CURRENT

Ralph Nader was talking about this like a week ago.
And then he gave away recipies for his mother's hummous (Ralph Nader is of Lebanese descent) -
LOL, no one is going to respect this stupid thing.
1. They need to know which Country actually came with it.
2. Then they need to Patent the name. Which will be difficult.
3. Then they will need to act the same way to all countries. All of them paying a royalty for using the name.Sue Israel over Hummus is about hatred and a plain attack which no one will respect.
Middle east is all about hate and confrontations will never, ever end until it's hatred and violent culture changes.

How do you generalize about an entire region of the world?
It's not stupid, years ago I noticed how when diplomats go to Israel they eat food developed by Arabs, but it's not recognized as middle eastern food. I think it fair enough to want to be recognized!
on the other hand, cultures are constantly mixing it up, and there isn't nothin wrong with that, its the way things are. And I'm not sure what this recognition will do practically for Lebanese business...
...it would have been nice for southern Lebanon not to have been destroyed but I guess u can't change the past, so at least get credit for inventing a food that's popular all around the world! -
Hmm. I come from a family of hummus-eating Syrian Jews who were encourage to relocate in Israel.

I don't care which country created Hummus...
It's too tasty and delicious to bow to any country!

West Bank Story - First 4 Minutes

Being of Egyptian heritage, I find this particularly amusing..especially because all through-out the mediterranean and mid-east these dishes exist in one form or another and depending on where you are from, you think your version is the best. For instance, Egyptian stuffed grape leaves kicks ass over Greek Dolmas..given the history - should we start suing each other over who created it first? I am also partial to N African Couscous than the Israeli variety..there could be no end to this...but better than violence i suppose.

A law suit like this makes absolutely no sense. There have been Jews living in the Middle East for thousands of years, so obviously they will share the same dishes with other Semitic people.
