Blackout of the national sport

When the England football team play Belarus in the World Cup qualifier on Wednesday, neither the BBC nor ITV will cover the game. Under the FA's current contract, only the 1.5 million subscribers to the subscription channel Setanta will be able to watch the match live. Even a Scot - Gordon Brown - has labelled as "unfortunate" this virtual blackout of the national sport.

That's really surprising to me! I don't follow football, but with a big game like this, you'd think they'd open it up to a wider audience. But maybe they're reacting to the fans. A report yesterday said the FA thinks England's fans are "crazy."

It's about money, pure and simple. It's disappointing, but not exactly surprising seeing as we already knew footbal was just about the cash, not about the fans.

On the other hand, a pay TV channel coming in to rival Murdoch and challenge the fact that games are scheduled and played on account of the Sky contract is no bad thing. I'm sure this will end up being resolved.

This is just showing that futbol is not a game of the people anymore, it all about who holds the cash...

Football is the best sport ever. Never talk down about football, I will kill you :D

And luckily for me I have setanta for free :D (thank you virgin media) but still it is a shame its not on BBC as they do the best coverage.
