The Iraqi parliament will meet this weekend to decide whether or not to accept the latest US offer for a new Status of Forces Agreement, which as Sabah al-Nasseri explained in part one of our interview, has now become the all-encompassing document on US operations in Iraq. In part two of our discussion, Sabah explains how political forces inside Iraq are likely to force a rejection of the proposal. With a variety of influential voices within Iraq and the parliament voicing their opposition to the agreement, and president Maliki looking to secure a political victory before January's provincial elections, Sabah believes the parliament will be forced to reject the offer and seek an extension for the occupation from the UN. These are signs of representative democracy at work, something that the US has proposed is one of its aims in Iraq, but that now appears to be an obstacle to the current US plan for the future.
Born in Basra, Iraq, Sabah al-Nasseri is Professor of Political Science (Middle East Politics) at York University, Toronto. Prior to that he was a Lecturer of Political Science at the J.W. Goethe University, Frankfurt. Currently he is working on an article, “Understanding Iraq.”

Good read. Thumbs up on another fantastic piece.

Invasion has never been good for anyone. Let us imagine going to other Countries on missions of charity instead on missions of attack and destruction.
-
With the way things are, Iraq will end up with a tyrant once again to stabilize the whole country.
Either the US creates the tyrant or the tyrant is created after the US leaves and causes a power vacuum remains to be seen.
Interesting days ahead.

Wishes.. sometimes i wish is a key for the death of many people and sometimes to loosen up the mind to unknown world...

I have no doubt at all that the day after the US. leaves Iraq, the people will overthrow the Maliki government and someone will declare themselves as the new leader, ruler, king or whatever name they want to call themselves. And will rule by violance and terror. It will just go back to the "same old, same old.

Invasion only creates enemies and more resistance.
