Man jailed for attacks on gay men he met in chatrooms
A life sentence has been handed to a Swedish man for his brutal attacks against gay men.
Swedish website The Local reported that the 35-year-old was convicted of killing a man in his own home on December 28th 2007 and of the robbery and attempted murder of a 44-year-old man the day before. He was also convicted of robbing two men on the ninth and 15th of December, having finished a sentence in January 2007 for similar crimes.
The man met his victims through internet chat sites and gave the impression that he wanted to have sex with them, meeting them in their apartments in Stockholm.
His last victim died from knife wounds and a knife was used in the attempted murder. The victim received a number of threats and stab wounds, including one on the sole of his foot as he lay naked in bed with his hand tied behind his back. He also had his wallet, holding 900 kronor (around £75), stolen.
"All the victims were, or are, homosexual," said public prosecutor Fredrik Ingblad at the man's indictment hearing. "He has taken advantage of their sexual preferences and violated them."
Have you ever met someone in person that you'd 'met' on the internet? Did they tie you up, stab you in the foot and steal your wallet? (I hope not) Can it ever be safe to meet up with someone you 'met' online? Are minority groups particularly vulnerable in cases like this?

Lots of sex but few orgasms for the Chinese
Really strange results just in from the Durex Sexual Wellbeing Global Survey this year: 78% of the Chinese have sex weekly, but only 24% were able to achieve an orgasm everytime they had sex. Any sexperts out there wanna tell us what insightful analysis one can make based on the above two statistics?
The Chinese might be top global performers when it comes to business, but during sex they appear to be struggling to reach their peak.
Couples from China and Hong Kong are the least likely to reach orgasm during sex, while the Italians and Spanish claim to have no problems climaxing, a global sex survey showed on Tuesday.
Less than a quarter -- 24 percent -- of those surveyed from China and Hong Kong were able to achieve an orgasm every time they had sex.
Italy, Spain and Mexico tied for top place, achieving orgasms 66 percent of the time, said the Durex Sexual Wellbeing survey, which polled 26,000 people in 26 countries.
The French, famous for their romantic overtures, came in at a middling 48 percent of the time -- the global average, the survey said.
Other Asian countries such as Japan and Singapore ranked poorly with those polled saying they only reached orgasm 27 percent and 36 percent of the time respectively.
Of those who manage to climax, the Japanese were the least satisfied with the intensity of the orgasm while Mexicans and Brazilians said they were the most satisfied.
Women climaxed less than men, with 32 percent saying they reached the peak every time they had sex, compared with 63 percent of men.
Factors that enhanced an orgasm included delaying climax, longer foreplay time and having a strong emotional relationship, the survey said.
The survey also found that while men preferred to orgasm with a partner, women achieved an orgasm more easily through masturbation.
"If you want to have an orgasm, it's important that you allow yourself to surrender to the good feelings you are experiencing," said Kevan Wylie, a sexual health expert, in a statement.

Jack Barrowman takes gay test
The openly-gay Torchwood star is subjected to a set of experiments in BBC1's The Making of Me to determine whether he was born homosexual or if his sexuality was determined by his environment.
And following the tests, the I'd Do Anything Judge has urged the parents of homosexuals to watch the programme in order to gain a greater understanding of their children.
Speaking live from Los Angeles this morning on GMTV, for rival breakfast news company ITV1, Jack would not be drawn to give away the experiments outcome before broadcast on July 24th, but did hint that regardless of nature or nuture homosexuality was something that was unavoidable. Move to allow abortion in Northern Ireland
MPs are to stage a fresh attempt to make it easier for women in Northern Ireland to have an abortion.
The cross-party group of MPs will attempt to force a vote in the House of Commons by tabling an amendment to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill in the autumn. The amendment to the Bill, which is passing through Parliament, would allow women to have an abortion on the NHS in Northern Ireland, a right they do not have now.
Labour's Diane Abbott said a woman can have an abortion in Northern Ireland only if it can be shown there was evidence of a threat to her life. This was "very strictly defined", she said. It means that every year more than 1,000 women have to pay to have the procedure carried out privately in mainland Britain, usually England.
But the proposal would face stiff opposition from Northern Ireland MPs, the majority of whom are against such a change. There have previously been suggestions that MPs from the Democratic Unionist Party were assured the abortion laws would not be changed.
Ms Abbott, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "When it comes to abortion rights, Northern Ireland women are effectively second-class citizens. They don't have the same rights as women in England and Wales and Scotland. They even have fewer rights than women in the Republic of Ireland.
Asked if MPs should vote to change the law when the majority of Northern Ireland MPs were against it, she said: " think it is not unreasonable that the British Parliament should say that all citizens in the British Isles should have the same rights. The effect of the amendment would be to give women in Northern Ireland exactly the same rights to abortion with NHS funding that women elsewhere in Britain have. We think we have got a very good chance of getting the amendment through."

Identical twins marry identical twins and give birth to identical twins
When identical twin sisters Diane and Darlene Nettemeier met identical twin brothers Craig and Mark Sanders a decade ago, they could never have guessed just how much of their lives would be based around perfect sets of two.
The sets of twins, from Texas, fell in love, went on a double date to Las Vegas, and won thousands of dollars at poker. Sensing they were on a winning streak, they got engaged on the same day, married at a joint ceremony (officially "quarternary marriages"), and built a pair of homes, side by side.
Soon afterwards, despite a million-to-one odds, Diane and Craig went on to have identical twins of their own - Colby and Brady, now seven.

Not everyone meets our 'nudist standards': French nudist centre keeps 'black list'
France's data protection authority has given permission for a nudist resort to keep a "black list" of guests barred from its facilities, the organization said.
The Rene Oltra nudist center in southern France was obliged to seek permission after a person complained of being denied a reservation, the authority said on its website.
French law requires organizations to seek authorization to keep lists of individuals denied use of their services.
Contacted by Reuters, the resort declined to give further details regarding individual's exclusion from its site.
The centre's rules require guests to abide by its "naturist ethic" of nudity at all times, weather permitting, and bans upsetting other guests or failing to observe hygiene standards.
"But nudity is not exhibitionism. Any indecent behavior will be sanctioned by immediate exclusion," the rules say.

Ex-teacher charged again in student’s rape
Heather Kennedy, 25, of Massapequa, the former Wantagh high school teacher who pleaded guilty last month to having sex with a 16-year-old student, was arrested again, accused of the same crime. She was first arrested March26 after the boy, a student of hers at Wantagh High School, confessed to his father that they had sex in his car in the parking lot of Massapequa High School.
Last month, Heather Kennedy pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct involving a 16 year old former student she was charged with raping. While awaiting sentencing in the case, Kennedy was ordered to NOT have contact with the victim.
Kennedy, who taught math and was also a track coach at the school, pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct June 12 and was out on probation, awaiting sentencing in August. She faced up to a year in prison and was going to lose her teaching license after registering as a sex offender.
"Almost immediately after she walked out of court, she was having contact with the victim by phone and in person," Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said.
The district attorney's office received a tip and an investigation revealed the two had sex five more times after June 12, in violation of the boy's order of protection. According to the boy's testimony to investigators, in the past two months the boy sneaked out to have sex with Kennedy twice in Kennedy's grandparents' Bellmore home, twice in a mutual friend's Wantagh home, and once after Kennedy picked up the boy from the Massapequa train station. More rights for fathers? Australia wants to protect dads
Australia's sex discrimination commissioner has gone in to fight for the country's men who complain that their careers suffer if they take time out to be dads.
Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick said Australia needed to change laws to better protect men who choose the "daddy track" and to ensure men and women have equal access to flexible work arrangements and time-off for family duties.
Many Australian companies were reluctant to allow men to work part-time so they could take a bigger role in looking after their children, she added. "Men told of the pressure that they felt to be the primary breadwinner and the long work hours that prevented them from sharing time with their partners, children and other family members," Broderick said on Tuesday. "Men can only bring a complaint if they are sacked."
Broderick released a report on key areas needed to improve gender equity which found women were still paid less than men, had less retirement savings, did more unpaid work and child caring, and were subjected to more sexual harassment.
But she said that although both men and women complained about trying to juggle work and home responsibilities, Australia's laws offered more protection to mothers than fathers.
Appointed to the position last September, Broderick said reducing the incidence of sexual harassment, and helping Australians balance work and family commitments, would be key areas for time in the job.

Woman convicted of raping 11-year-old boy
wenty-eight-year-old mother of 2, Carrie L. Dana, was convicted of felony counts of rape, indecent assault of a child younger than age 13, and a misdemeanor count of corruption of minors. She was acquitted of two felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.
Prosecutors alleged Dana repeatedly had sex with the 11 years old boy between March and August 2007 in Dana's residence in the 2400 block of State Street. The defense is claiming that Dana did not assault the boy, or, if she did, that she did so under duress. The victim was a neighbor of Dana's and a friend of her son, according to the complaint filed by Erie County Detective Jon Reddinger.
Dana has a history of mental-health treatment, according to court records. She was living in a residence run by Stairways Behavioral Health when two theft cases against her were prosecuted in 1998, according to the records.
The boy told jurors Thursday that Dana was a neighbor who helped care for his seriously ill parents. He enjoyed visiting Dana's home and watching movies with her children, he said. Dana made sexual advances toward him the first night he spent the night at her home, he said. He said they had sex almost "every day" until August, when he turned 12.
The victim said Dana ended the relationship because she believed others were suspicious and she started to think she could get caught. wenty-eight-year-old mother of 2, Carrie L. Dana, was convicted of felony counts of rape, indecent assault of a child younger than age... more -
Science proves that bikinis turn men into boobs
You may have known this all along, but now it has been demonstrated scientifically: bikinis make men stupid.
This month’s issue of the Journal of Consumer Research features a paper titled “Bikinis Instigate Generalized Impatience in Intertemporal Choice,” which is a neuroeconomist’s (definition in a moment) way of saying that men don’t make good decisions while checking out pretty girls in bikinis.
Hence automakers’ penchant for placing leggy models in front of absurdly priced cars at auto shows, and the casting of three scantily clad women on that “Republica Deportiva” show on Univision which I find myself watching though I don’t care whether Chivas defeated Rayados del Monterey.
Virgil wrote of the phenomenon 2,000 years ago when he created the epic poem “The Aeneid.” When Venus convinces Vulcan to make some special armor, she
…threw her snow-white arms around him
As he held back, caressing him here and there,
And suddenly he caught fire — the same old story,
The flame he knew by heart went running through him,
Melting him to the marrow of his bones…
She knew her beauty’s power.
But though we might recognize this intuitively, there is some very important insight about sex and relationships, not to mention economics, to be gained from this latest research.
In the “bikini” experiments, Belgian researchers conducted a series of tests on 358 young men. In one test, the men looked at images of women in bikinis or lingerie and at images of landscapes. In another, some men were given T-shirts to handle and assess while others were given bras. Another batch of men was assigned to watch a commercial featuring men running over landscapes while other guys watched a video of “hundreds of young women, dressed in bikinis running across hills, fields and beaches.” (No word on whether they used “Baywatch” slo-mo).
In each test, the researchers offered the men the choice between being paid 15 euros immediately or bargaining for a larger sum that they'd be willing to wait a week or a month for. In all the tests, the men exposed to the sexy imagery or bras cited delayed reward amounts that were lower than the amounts cited by the men who saw sex-neutral imagery. For example, while a man who looked at landscapes might have demanded an extra payment of 10 euros a month later (totaling 25), the bikini-gazer might have been willing to settle for five extra (totaling 20). The sexy imagery did not work on all men all the time, but, as a group, men with sex on their brains settled for a less lucrative bargain, suggesting they were more impulsive and valued immediate gratification more than the controls.
“I observed in my studies that men are more likely to pick a smaller immediate reward over a larger later reward,” Bram van den Bergh, the study’s lead author, tells me. “Hence I do think that men might spend money on something they might otherwise not purchase. Men would become more impulsive in any domain after exposure to sexual cues.” You may have known this all along, but now it has been demonstrated scientifically: bikinis make men stupid. ... more -

Viagra helps depressed women
THE erectile dysfunction drug Viagra has proven effective at combating sexual dysfunction in depressed women, according to a study published today.
Sexual dysfunction is a common side effect of antidepressants and a major reason why people stop taking medication for their depression.
This is particularly problematic given that twice as many women as men are prescribed antidepressants but the most effective drugs used to combat sexual dysfunction in men are not approved for use in women, the authors wrote.
Researchers tested Viagra on 98 women whose depression was in remission but were still experiencing sexual dysfunction such as lack of arousal or pain during sex.
The women were told to take a pill one to two hours before sex for eight weeks. Half were given placebos pills which had no pharmacological effects.
Some 73 per cent of the women given placebos reported no improvement with treatment while only 28 percent of the women taking Viagra said they did not notice an improvement, the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found.
Some of the women experienced headaches, flushing and indigestion but none of them withdrew from the trial because of side effects.
"By treating this bothersome treatment-associated adverse effect in patients who have been effectively treated for depression, but need to continue on their medication to avoid relapse or recurrence, patients can remain antidepressant-adherent, reduce the current high rates of premature medication discontinuation, and improve depression disease management outcomes," wrote lead author George Nurnberg of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Gordon Brown aide victim of Chinese honeytrap?
"A top aide to Gordon Brown has been a suspected victim of a “honeytrap” operation by Chinese intelligence agents.
The aide, a senior Downing Street adviser who was with the prime minister on a trip to China earlier this year, had his BlackBerry phone stolen after being picked up by a Chinese woman who had approached him in a Shanghai hotel disco.
The aide agreed to return to his hotel with the woman. He reported the BlackBerry missing the next morning.
A senior official said yesterday that the incident had all the hallmarks of a suspected honeytrap by Chinese intelligence. The incident will raise fresh questions about the security of sensitive official information. It follows a spate of high-profile cases where data from government departments have been lost."
