    • Christians flee Iraqi city after killings - convert to Islam or face death

At least 900 Christian families have fled Mosul in the past week, terrified by a series of killings and threats by Muslim extremists ordering them to convert to Islam or face possible death, officials said Saturday.

The attacks may have been prompted by Christian demonstrations ahead of provincial elections, which are to be held by the end of January, the deputy governor of Nineveh province said.

Deputy Gov. Khasro Goran said 13 Christians have been slain in the past two weeks inMosul, about 260 miles (420 kilometers) north of Baghdad. Fleeing Christians have sought refuge in monasteries and churches and with family members in other towns, an Interior Ministry official said.

The attacks began after hundreds of Christians took to the streets in Mosul and surrounding villages and towns, seeking greater representation on provincial councils, whose members will be chosen in the local elections.

Duraid Mohammed Kashmoula, Nineveh's governor, told The Associated Press that the exodus was "a major displacement."

"Of course, al Qaeda elements are behind this campaign against Christians," Kashmoula told AP.

The Interior Ministry official said the homes of three families were destroyed with explosives Saturday after the occupants left. No injuries were reported.

A week ago, leaflets were distributed in several predominantly Christian neighborhoods, threatening families to "either convert to Islam or pay the jizyah or leave the city or face death," said the Interior Ministry official.

Historically, jizyah is a tax paid by non-Muslims in exchange for protection.

Goran said that a few days after the leaflets were passed out, gunmen set up checkpoints in parts of Mosul, stopping vehicles to inspect identification papers, searching for Christian names or other signs of religious affiliation. Many of the Christians killed were targeted in this way, he said.

Bashir Azoz, 45, told AP he fled his Mosul home after gunmen warned a neighbor to leave or be killed.

"Where is the government and its security forces as these crimes take place every day?" asked Azoz, a carpenter who is staying with his wife and three children in a town about 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of Mosul, according to AP.

The Rev. Bolis Jacob, of Mosul's Mar Afram Church, told AP he couldn't understand the attacks.

"We respect the Islamic religion and the Muslim clerics," he said. "We don't know under what religion's pretexts these terrorists work."

Goran said police have set up security checkpoints in Christian neighborhoods.

In response to the violence, Iraqi Defense Minister Abdul Qader al-Obaidi visited Mosul on Saturday morning, conducting meetings with local authorities and military commanders.

His spokesman, Mohammed al-Askari, said that in addition to ordering more checkpoints in Christian neighborhoods, al-Obaidi ordered more troops deployed, additional security patrols and an increase in aerial surveillance of Christian areas.

Al-Obaidi also ordered more guards for Christian clerics, al-Askari said.

    • America Is Not A Christian Nation

There isn't anything Christian about our government and our nation. It's true, there are many who follow the Christian Path, but there are even more that follow paths that has nothing to do with the Scriptures. Christianity is not the path to peace.
Anyone who has done any sort of reading or research, knows that the United States is not a Christian Nation. I believe like our founding fathers. I believe in the separation of church and state.
Nowhere in the Constitution says that the founding of this Nation was the idea of God, of Jesus, or of Christianity.
The religious people have caused more trouble, wars, deception, lies, and outright murder than any other group in the history of humanity.
Keep the church in the churches and out of the schools, politice, policy, courts and off the money. Most religions is propaganda.
I personally will not place my hand of the Bible and swear a oath in the name of the Christian God. I will swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, but not in God's name.
      So Mote It Be.

    • Secular America Government

Many believe that the United States government is built on Christian foundations. They say the the political system represents a Christian ideal form of government. Many believe that the founding fathers expressed Christian values while framing the Constitution. How true is this?
It is true that America statesmen did practiced Christianity, but most of the founding fathers broke away from religious thinking. Instead of relying on faith, they used reasons and science to guide them. There are a few Christians fundamentalist that are trying to convience the America people to return to Christianity of early America.
The founding fathers rarely practiced Christianity. They supported the free will of many religions, not just Christianity. Most of them were Free-Masons. Free-Masons says that men worship according to their own conscious, not just Christianity. The Masons welcomed anyone from any religion or non-religion, just as long as they believed in a Supreme Being, not only the Christian God.
The Constitution reflects a secular government, protecting the freedom of any belief or unbelief. It says nothing about Christianity only. George Washington stated in 1789, that every person "ought to be protected in worshipping the Deity according to the dictates of his or her own conacience." In 1799 George Washington became a Master Mason and was a Free-Mason until he died.
Thomas Jefferson denounced the superstitutions of Christianity. He did not believe in spiritual souls, angels or godly miracles. He admired the morality of Jesus, but did not believe in the Trinity or the miracles of Jesus. He believed in materialism, reason, and science. He had no religion, but his own.
John Adams flatly denise the doctrine of eternal damnation. James Madison, he had no conventional sense of Christianity. Although Benjamin Franklin received religious training, but he rebeled against his parents Christianity.
Thomas Paine said, "I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the protestant church, not by any church that I know. My own mind is my church." Personally I agree with Thomas Paine.
There is nowhere in the Constitution do you find a single word mention of Christianity, of God, of Jesus Christ, or any Supreme Being. There's only two reference to religion that occurs. You will find it in the First Amendment, which says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion," and in Article VI, Section 3 states, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
How can people in America say that the Constitution of the United States of America is based on Christianity?
      Thank You.

Shorter and partners Rome/Floyd County ready to host NAIA football championship

With kickoff of the NAIA National Football Championship Game only three months away, plans are heating up for host school Shorter College and its partners, the City of Rome and Floyd County.

“We do have a company that has delivered a term sheet to be the title sponsor of the game,” said Host Committee co-chair and Shorter Athletic Director Bill Peterson. “This company is a perfect fit for the championship and will be a great partner for us.”

Rome attorney and committee co-chair Bob Berry added, “The NAIA has never had a title sponsor for its championship football game. Our mission all along has been to elevate the status of the game, and we believe this is an important step toward that goal.”

Plans for the 2008 championship are focusing on more than just the football game. “Our goal is to create a championship experience for the players, the coaches and the fans that is an experience of a lifetime,” Peterson said. “Certainly, the Saturday football game is the focal point, but we want to have a total fan experience that will attract visitors for more than just the afternoon.”

The first public event of the championship week will be the FCA Champions of Character Breakfast on Thursday, Dec. 18. Legendary Air Force Head Coach Fisher DeBerry will be the featured speaker at the event in the Forum in Rome. “We are especially pleased to feature Coach DeBerry because he perfectly exemplifies what the Champions of Character program is all about,” Peterson said. “Plus, in addition to his experience at the Air Force Academy, he also coached in the NAIA. He knows firsthand what it means to play small college football, and he can truly relate to the players.”

The championship game will be played at noon on Saturday, Dec. 20, at Barron Stadium. Tickets for the game are available through Shorter’s box office at a cost of $20 for general admission and $25 for reserved seating. Group rates are available.

    • Pastors pray to end gay marriage

Hundreds of pastors have called on their congregations to fast and pray for passage of a ballot measure in November that would put an end to gay marriage in California.

The collective act of piety, starting Wednesday and culminating three days before the election in a revival for as many as 100,000 people at the San Diego Chargers' stadium, comes as church leaders across California put people, money and powerful words behind Proposition 8.

Some pastors around the state and nation are encouraging their flocks to forgo solid food for up to 40 days in the biblical tradition.

Jim Garlow, the pastor of the evangelical Skyline Church in San Diego County, said he expects up to 100 young adults to spend five-plus weeks on his campus, subsisting on soup, juice and the promise of societal salvation.

"This is not political to us. We see it as very spiritual," said Garlow, a leader of an interfaith coalition that has held monthly teleconferences, shared sermons and solicited donations for the ballot measure.

    • Google settles out of court in abortion ad row

Anti-abortion religious groups will be allowed to place campaigning ads on Google's search engine after an out of court settlement was reached between the internet giant and a Christian charity.

In April the anti-abortion Christian Institute, a UK-based Christian charity, drafted an ad for use on Google's search engine which read 'UK abortion law: Key views and news on abortion law from the Christian Institute.'

Google did not display the ad because a policy within AdWords, Google's advertising platform, blocked advertising of sites that mixed "abortion and religion-related content".

Subsequently the Christian Institute launched legal action against Google under the Equality Act 2006, which prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion in the provision of a good or service.

A settlement was reached yesterday and as a result Google has reviewed its AdWords policy to enable the institute and other religious associations to place ads on the subject of abortion in a factual and campaigning way.

In a statement the Christian Institute said: "The new policy will apply worldwide with immediate effect. This is an important issue of free speech and religious liberty and we are pleased with Google's constructive response to this matter."

A spokesperson for Google said "The issue of abortion is an emotive subject and Google does not take a particular side. Over the last few months we have received a number of representations about our abortion ads policy and we decided to conduct a review to make sure it was fair, up to date and consistent with local customs and practices.

"Following the review we have decided to amend our policy, creating a level playing field and enable religious associations to place ads on abortion in a factual way."

The Christian Institute has an anti-abortion stance and says on its website that it believes in "human personhood".

It says: "There are enormous practical implications which flow from this belief. Not only is abortion wrong, but also any practice which deliberately destroys human embryos. This includes human cloning and the use of drugs which prevent the implantation of an embryo."

    • Mission Fucking Accomplished, or My God is Bigger than Your God

The war is over, and we have won.

Saddam is dead, or at least not very visible. Our troops have returned home, save for the odd hundred thousand or so who linger on in Iraq, perhaps sight-seeing. And all of Iraq is grateful that the international coalition led by the United States (and, in the amusing sidekick role, England) has brought a thriving secular democracy to this land of sand and sand. Except for the ones who are shooting us. Or blowing shit up.

So let us give thanks to God, without whom none of this would have necessary. For he is nothing if not a big God. A Michael Clarke Duncan sort of God, only lighter, and with hair. Few know this better than Lt. Gen. William Jerry Boykin, the former commander of the Army Special Forces and a man who has led or been part of almost every recent U.S. military operation." The general laid it on the line when he said, in regards to a Muslim fighter in Somalia: "my God was bigger than his."

Now some might complain that this is just another example of the gross cultural insensitivity which started with Operation Infinite Justice (the original name for the Afghan war, which George Bush also called a crusade) and contains to this very day when Americans refer to EYE-raq instead of EAR-raq, the way the rest of the world pronounces it (and, indeed, the pronunciation preferred by many Iraqis).

But that would be missing the point.

While our God, the Christian God (and the God of non-obstructionist Jews) is clearly the bigger God today, what about tomorrow? What if the Muslim God is getting up early and running, then hitting the heavy bag, cooling down and eating a sensible lunch, and sparring for several rounds in the afternoon? Each day?

And what if the Christian God is taking it easy, just watching television and eating manna chips? What if our God is turning out to be like Rocky in Rocky III, or George Foreman in real life?

You see, the war may be over, but the battle is just beginning.

And that battle stretches for as far the eye can see. It is a battle of good versus evil, a battle of Republican versus Democrat, a battle of honest, hard-working flatlanders versus coastal urban elites, a battle of all those who love this country unflinchingly and reflexively versus those who hate this country or, perhaps, are simply more sophisticated in their affection. It is, in a word, the mother of battles. It is a war.

Which is why Pro-War.com has returned.
The war is over, and we have won. ... more

I was rather shocked to see this.
Most of the article is insane in MHO. Really check the link and you will be amazed.
But I am not a Falwell fan. I think this whole idea is rather warped.

But it has one idea that I think is worth reading, take it for what it is (the rest.. geez I didn't even bother to post it for you, but go see it):

One of the primary purposes of the church is to stop the spread of evil, even at the cost of human lives. If we do not stop the spread of evil, many innocent lives will be lost and the kingdom of God suffers.
Finally, some reading this column will surely ask, "Doesn't the sixth commandment say, 'Thou shalt not kill?'"
Actually, no; it says: "Thou shalt not commit murder."
There is a difference between killing and murdering. In fact, many times God commanded capital punishment for those who break the law.

Thanks for checking this out. Leave a comment.

    • Guitar Praise: Christian Rock Themed Guitar Hero?

Digital Praise, a faith-based video game development company, is gearing up to release Guitar Praise later this month to compete with games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero.

Guitar Praise, like the title suggests, is a Guitar Hero clone for the PC and Mac that features hit songs from popular Christian rock bands such as Relient K, Flyleaf, and 12 Stones.

Digital Praise hopes to set their game apart from other guitar-related music games by feature more wholesome family songs as well as onscreen lyrics that reflect that reflect Christian values. Singers are encouraged to sing along while the guitarist plays.

The game will feature 2-player co-op and duel modes. Unlike Rock Band and the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour, Guitar Praise will not support drum set or microphone peripherals.

While it may seem like this game has come out of nowhere, Digital Praise have been developing Christian-based rhythm games since 2005 with the release of Dance Praise, a Dance Dance Revolution clone again featuring popular Christian music.

The star kicker is a girl: freshman Kacy Stuart: "I was playing kickball in 8th grade and my P.E. teacher saw me kick. He thought I had potential, so I played on his football team."

This year, Kacy moved. She is now playing football at the New Creation Center (NCC). It's a private Christian school.

"She's a good kicker. She has a lot of skill, and we're just glad she's on the team," school administrator Judy Foster said.

NCC belongs to the Georgia Football League. The group oversees athletic programs for private Christian schools and home school programs. Earlier this month, the executive board called the NCC coach and said Kacy was not allowed to play because she's a girl.

Kacy says sometimes people ask her why she doesn't play a "girl" sport, or why she's not a cheerleader. "People were built for different things," she said. "I'm built to be a kicker. I just don't understand why people don't accept the fact that I like football and I want to play football."

    • Strange Bedfellows Behind Anti-Obama "Turban" Ad

When Barack Obama explained his decision to opt out of public financing for the general election, he said he needed to defend against attacks by stealth conservative groups.

He pointed to one ad in particular, which showed an edited clip of him: "We are no longer a Christian nation … We are also a Muslim nation," spliced with a photo of Obama wearing a turban.

"It took a speech that I had made, extolling faith, and made it seem as if I had said that America was a Muslim nation," Obama told reporters on June 20.

The ad, the first truly inflammatory spot to air on television this year, was produced by a shadowy group called the Coalition Against Anti-Christian Rhetoric.

Though it only aired once — just before the South Dakota primary — it created a hubbub by linking Obama to Islam. Yet few clues helped answer the question of who was behind the coalition.
It turns out the ad was the product of a hypnotherapist who later appeared in a pro-Clinton demonstration at the Denver convention, an apolitical wedding videographer, and a felon who is now on the run.

Their saga highlights the outsize influence that a hodgepodge collection of political amateurs can have in a national election — in this case, by accident.

      The Hypnotherapist

Cristi Adkins says she was a gung-ho Clinton activist when some friends, an informal group of Christians from the South, asked her for help in responding to an Obama speech that offended them.

They had come across a 2006 speech in which Obama, addressing issues of faith, said it would be problematic to base public policy on Christianity because parts of the Bible seem to support slavery and "stoning your child if he strays from the faith."

Adkins, who was also bothered by the speech, says she helped her friends organize and come up with a name — the Coalition Against Anti-Christian Rhetoric. She set up a Web site for them. And she helped produce the ad, using her husband's firm, Washington-based Allen Media Strategies, to place it on TV in South Dakota in time for the Democratic primary there.

The ad used an edited clip of the speech in which Obama actually says, "Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation — at least not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, and a Buddhist nation and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers." Other parts of the speech, where Obama discusses his own Christian faith, have been used in radio ads supporting him.

Adkins says the group itself didn't support or oppose a specific candidate — the members just wanted to take Obama to task for comments they felt denigrated Christianity. Adkins, who says she's an independent who voted for Democrat John Kerry in 2004, has much stronger feelings about Obama.

"I truly fear an Obama presidency. This guy's so dangerous, who needs al-Qaida?" she told me.

Adkins is a hypnotherapist and nurse who has a fat loss program and wellness center in Reston, Va. She has become a John McCain supporter and formed a new group: Clintons4McCain. She's been on Fox News and says she met with Sen. McCain in June along with other Clinton supporters campaigning against Obama.

      The Convicted Felon

Adkins says she met Mike Donovan through her pro-Clinton organizing. As far as she knew, she says, he was another ardent Clinton activist. They even protested together at a rally, she says.

Donovan, now 31, told her he could raise money for the ad, according to Adkins. She recalls him saying he was a minister and could handle press.*continues*

    • Church Trashed as India Religious Riots Spread

Hindu mobs ransacked a church and clashed with Christian villagers in eastern India on Thursday, police said, as Italy said it would summon India's ambassador to demand "incisive action" to prevent more attacks.

Indian authorities have struggled to control spiraling religious violence in the eastern state of Orissa.

Hindu mobs have destroyed more than a dozen churches and attacked Christians this week after the murder of a Hindu leader in Kandhamal, a tribal area where Christian missionaries have been active for years.

Shoot-on-sight orders have failed to end clashes that have killed at least 11 people, mainly in Kandhamal district.

Police deployed more than 3,000 personnel in the streets on Thursday but they could not stop the ransacking of at least one church. Local media said as many as four churches were attacked.

"Police are marching in several areas now," Orissa police chief Gopal Chandra Nanda told Reuters.

Television pictures showed mobs armed with rods putting up road blocks on Thursday and others attacking churches.

Other mobs armed with bows and arrows and axes have attacked Christian homes, dragging out women and children. Hundreds have fled to forests and nearby hills, officials said.

"Moments after we passed by a Christian village, people set it on fire and everything was over within minutes," a senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said from Kandhamal, the worst-hit district.

India's constitution is secular, but most of its billion-plus citizens are Hindu. About 2.5 percent of Indians are Christians. But around the Kandhamal area, home to around 650,000 people, more than 20 percent of the mainly tribal inhabitants are Christian converts.

Religious violence has troubled tribal regions of Orissa for years, with Hindus and Christians fighting over conversions.

While Hindu groups accuse Christian priests of bribing poor tribes and low-caste Hindus to change their faith, the Christians say lower-caste Hindus convert willingly to escape a complex Hindu caste system.
      Italy Condemns Religious Violence

The killings have drawn international reaction. Pope Benedict has condemned the violence against Christians in Orissa but also deplored the killing of the Hindu leader.

On Thursday, Italy's foreign ministry said it will summon India's ambassador to demand "incisive action" to prevent further attacks against Christians.

A statement issued after a cabinet meeting also said Italy would ask France, the current EU president, to take up the issue at a future meeting of foreign ministers.

The Indian ambassador would be told of Rome's "strong expectations" for "an incisive, preventive and repressive action by Indian authorities regarding such unacceptable acts of violence," the Italian statement said.

In Orissa, peace committees were set up in villages and India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh discussed the violence with a delegation of bishops in the capital, New Delhi.

But Christians in many villages said attacks were worse than the government has said.
