Xcorps #17.) JETBOARD-seg.3- The Xcorps talent team rolls into action again in this episode with Jason Lazo in Detroit jamming a local club with his band, Roslyn Bradle on the beach in California covering a skim board event, Bob Woodard test riding the revolutionary Jet Board and Eric putting on a huge extreme sports XPO in San Diego.
The show opens with Jason in metro Motown talking about his band the Don Juan Invitation and the local music scene. Great original tunes here along with a special Xcorps tribute song. After that the camera shifts to host Bob Woodard at the XC test site at Irvine Lake California where Bob takes a look at a new way to ride the waves-on a Powerski! See how he does on his first ride on the board all pushed hard with a song and video from the Maverick Records band The Deftones.
After break its over to Laguna Beach Ca where we find host Roslyn Bradle covering the niche fun beach sport of skim boarding or riding the waves that break on the beach.
Laguna is all about the beach break and XC cams get lots of sweet skim moves by some of the best skim surfers out there all mixed up with music and shots from So. Cal based band LiT rolling their song. Roz talks with skim master and Common Sense band member Nick Hernandez about the history of the sport.
The next segment rolls south to San Diego where host Eric Ducharme shows his skills at producing action sports events-this one called the Action Sports and Fitness Show held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Non stop big hucks here featuring huge air by skaters, mountain boarders and BMX freestylers pushing it to the beat from the chick Maverick band LilliX doing the old Romantics tune What I like About You. Perfect. See what Eric Big Air Ducharme has to say about the event. Right on X Guru!
The show wraps back in Detroit with Jasons band doing another original tune from the stage at club Rumors and a look at some pro sky surfing from the next episode of Xcorps. Detroit’s First Lady: Invincible

After immigrating to Michigan from Israel at the tender age of 7, Ilana Weaver, aka Invincible, used her natural gravitation towards hip-hop as a way to learn English. By the time she was in high school, she had begun to build her reputation as an MC, performing at open mics and throwing events in abandoned buildings around Ann Arbor and Detroit. Her passion for the music eventually led her to make a trip to NY at 16, where she linked up with the famed underground, all-female aNoMoLies crew. During that late-90’s NY indie boom, Invincible was able to build with like-minded progressive artists and continue to perform constantly with aNoMoLies. Still, for all the work her and the crew put in, there is not too much tangible from that period. Invincible explains, “the way people would see us was live at shows, and we would do shows so often. We would be at every event at that time in New York opening for everybody that was coming out at that time, Blackstar, deadprez, even Black Eyed Peas at one point.”

After turning down numerous major label offers that stifled her creative vision, Invincible moved back to Detroit in 2001 and began focusing more on her own music as well as her activism. She has since solidified links with the Waajeed-led Bling47 Group as well as with fellow D artist Finale to build strong musical network for her music. Her involvement with the Detroit Summer non-profit community collective has helped her use her skills and hip-hop in general as a way to speak to and organize youth around community issues such as predatory development and the criminalization of local schools. Rather than having her music and her community involvement exists separately, Invincible makes a conscious choice to mix those ideologies into her music, while still making sure the beats are hard and the rhymes match.

That mixture of good music and a message is just what she plans to deliver when she drops her first album after more than a decade in the game, ShapeShifters, released on her own independent label Emergence Music. They say an MC’s debut album is always a lifetime in the making and in this case, it shows. The unrelenting MC tackles deeply personal issues like emigrating from Israel at a young age, the realities of the seemingly liberal Ann Arbor she grew up in and family depression, all with the finesse of a true MC. With beats by fellow Michigan family like Wajeed, House Shoes and the Lab Techs, Invincible fashions a hard-hitting musical landscape that fills the low-end nicely as she tells her story. Why Used Car Dealers Love John McCain

As chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, the GOP candidate pushed legislation that would have helped sleazy car sellers get away with defrauding consumers.

During his long career, John McCain has battled Detroit and dressed down automakers to demand tougher mileage standards and safer cars. But he apparently has a soft spot for used car dealers. The lovefest started years ago, but was on full display during McCain's stints as chairman of the powerful Senate Commerce Committee in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Back in 1997, McCain cosponsored legislation that would help used car dealers sell rebuilt wrecked cars to consumers, at inflated prices, and without disclosing the damage. The bill, which had the potential to keep millions of dangerous cars on the nation's highways, was a pet project of then-Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.).

In June 1997, Lott introduced the "National Salvage Motor Vehicle Consumer Protection Bill," which, despite the title, actually would have undermined consumer protection laws nationwide. Most states require damaged or totaled cars, like those flooded during Hurricane Katrina, to be tagged with what's known as a "salvage title" before they can be resold, so potential buyers will know those cars may have major problems. Not surprisingly, car dealers would rather keep this information under wraps. In one of the most common types of auto fraud, unscrupulous dealers will take damaged cars to a state with weak consumer protection laws and get new, non-salvage titles that allow them to disguise the fact that the car may be held together with gum and bailing wire.

Many states have been working to end this practice and have created stiff penalties for this sort of title fraud. They also allow consumers to sue dealers to recoup their money if they have been defrauded. But Lott's bill would have done away with those tough state laws by instituting a single weak federal statute governing salvage titles. That new law would have prevented consumers from suing car dealers to get back their money if they'd unwittingly bought a rebuilt wreck. The Lott bill also exempted most used cars from any disclosure requirements. States that wanted to continue to enforce their own stricter laws would have no choice but to give up federal funds that allowed them to participate in a national fraud-prevention database that helped track wrecked cars across state lines.

Thirty-eight state attorneys general, including Arizona's, wrote to McCain and other senators on the committee to oppose the bill, which Iowa attorney general Thomas Miller called a "wolf in sheep's clothing." The bill was a sop to sleazy used car dealers, but also to insurance companies, which profit from the sale of wrecked vehicles and were major financial backers of Lott's many Senate campaigns.

Feud Led to Deadly Detroit School Shooting

DETROIT – Officials were trying to find a way to quell the violence and reassure frightened parents after a fight involving two high school students apparently led to a shooting on a primary-school lawn that killed one of them, police said. Three other teens were wounded and three more were in custody.

A community meeting was planned for Friday at Henry Ford High School, where a day earlier classes had just let out when a gunman stepped out of a black Mazda SUV and opened fire at an elementary school next door.

"I heard girls screaming and I saw 100, 200 kids running back toward the school," said Jamile Barber, 31, who lives across the street. "From there it was just chaos, people screaming and scrambling around."

Barber said he saw "two bodies, stiff and not moving" on the lawn outside the Michigan Technical Academy campus for pre-kindergarten through second grade, next to the high school.

Christopher Walker, 16, was pronounced dead at Providence Hospital, a spokesman said. He was an 11th-grader at Henry Ford, Detroit Public Schools spokesman Steve Wasko told the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News.

A 15-year-old female student was being treated at Providence, while two males — a 15-year-old student and a 16-year-old former student — were being treated at another hospital, Wasko said. All three were in serious condition late Thursday, Deputy Police Chief James Tate said.

Three males aged 15, 16 and 18 were arrested at their homes hours after the shooting, Tate said. Only the 16-year-old is a Henry Ford student, he said.

Police recovered a black Mazda SUV that witnesses saw the suspects riding in, but they had not recovered any weapons, Tate said. He said at least seven shell casings from an automatic weapon were found at the shooting scene.

It wasn't known whether anyone was inside the Michigan Technical Academy at the time.

The high school is on a busy street in a neighborhood of well-kept brick ranch houses and clean, tree-lined side streets. Barber, who grew up on Detroit's east side, said he moved there in July with his two daughters.

"It seemed to be a pretty good neighborhood," he said. "But now I've been hearing it's one of the worst schools in Detroit.
