Atheist billboards to debut during holidays

A controversial billboard will likely be popping up in a neighborhood near you, just in time for the holidays.

The billboard is paid for by a Colorado atheist group. The message sits against a blue sky backdrop and says, "Don't believe in God? You're not alone."

Ten billboards will pepper metro Denver, while one will be put up in Colorado Springs."And we're putting them up in November and December because of the holidays, when church and state issues tend to come up a lot," said Joel Guttormson, with Metro State Atheists. "To let non-believers, free-thinkers and atheists know that they are not alone, especially in a country like ours that is predominantly Christian."

Pastor Willard Johnson of Denver's Macedonia Baptist Church called the billboards a desperate effort to discredit Christianity.

"The Bible is being fulfilled. It says that in latter days, you have all these kinds of things coming up, trying to disrupt the validity of Christianity," Johnson said. "If they don't believe in God, how do they believe they came about? We denounce what they are doing. But we do it with love, with gentleness, with decency and with compassion."

Bob Enyart, a Christian radio host and spokesman for American Right to Life, said it's hard to ignore the evidence.

"The Bible says that faith is the evidence of things not seen. Evidence. If we ignore the evidence for gravity or the Creator, that's really dangerous," said Enyart. "Income tax doesn't not exist because somebody doesn't believe in it. And the same is true with our Creator."

The billboards will go up Nov. 17. The atheist group, called Colorado Coalition of Reason or COCORE, also wanted to put up signs in Fort Collins and Greeley, but a billboard company there refused to carry the message.

Johnson said atheism is a rebellion against Biblical principals and the billboard will likely offend many Christians.

"And I've read the First Amendment up and down and nowhere does it say that I have to care about your feelings. Crocs report $148Mill loss.

You know those shoes called Crocs? They're terribly hard to miss. Well, Crocs is also reporting major financial losses as their product has been very lucrative and oddly popular, especially in the Midwest USA. If you are aware of the Crocs phenomenon or have seen Crocs being worn (most likely with socks) then what do you think of this? Would it be a real loss if Crocs Inc were to go out of business?

Crocs Inc. said Wednesday it swung to a third-quarter loss of nearly $148 million as sales of the company's colorful plastic clogs plunged by nearly one-third amid a deteriorating U.S. economy and retail environment.

The loss included one-time charges of $104 million reflecting the declining value of the shoe maker's business, and Crocs issued a fourth-quarter financial forecast far below Wall Street expectations.

Crocs reported a net loss of nearly $148 million, or $1.79 per share, for the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with net income of $56.5 million, or 66 cents per share, a year ago.

Revenue dropped 32 percent to $174.2 million from $256.3 million. The latest quarter's revenue fell far short
of the forecast of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters, who had expected $201.7 million, on average.

Crocs recorded a $70 million charge in the latest quarter from writing down the value of inventory and expected losses on inventory purchase commitments. The Niwot, Colo.-based company took an asset impairment charge of $36.1 million that included a write-off of excess equipment and tooling. Crocs recorded a $2.5 million restructuring charge from the closure of Canadian manufacturing and distribution operations.

The company also reported a loss of about $14.6 million from unfavorable currency exchange rates, and increased its provision for returns and allowances by $19.5 million from a year earlier.

"Our performance was below expectations and continued to be impacted by the extremely challenging retail environments in the U.S. and Europe during the third quarter," said Ron Snyder, president and chief executive. "Based on current trends we have lowered our projected sales volumes and made the strategic decision to further right-size our operations to better align with our lower volumes and revenues."

Citing the weak economy, Snyder said Crocs plans to reduce capital expenditures by about 50 percent next year compared with 2008.

Crocs reported quarterly results after its shares fell 25 cents, or nearly 12 percent, to $1.90 during the regular session. Its shares are down sharply from a 52-week high of $46.80 reached in December.

Division Tactics Go Back to Slavery

The current elections discussions, now focusing on race, men, and women, and age, and who is voting for who, have taken a very interesting turn. It cannot be denied that the media has an influence over the outcome of any election due to its size, power, and reach, and especially its ownership structure. It can be argued that the division tactics being used by the Republican party can be traced back to the division tactics from the times of slavery in the Americas: dividing the old from the young, the men from women (as in polls suggesting that white women favor Obama, white men favor McCain), and of course dividing each race from another.

The following is a speech allegedly delivered by Willie Lynch on the bank of the James River in the colony of Virginia in 1712. Lynch was a British slave owner in the West Indies. He was invited to the colony of Virginia in 1712 to teach his methods to slave owners there. The term “lynching” is derived from his last name.

(I am obligated to also say that this speech is reported to not have happened by some researchers, but is still widely used and quoted by many who discuss the past and current divisions among citizens of all races in the United States and around the world. While this speech may not be authentic, it is hard to deny the message rings true, even today)

Excerpt from Speech:
Gentlemen, you know what your problems are; I do not need to elaborate. I am not here to enumerate your problems, I am here to introduce you to a method of solving them. In my bag here, I HAVE A FULL PROOF METHOD FOR CONTROLLING YOUR BLACK SLAVES. I guarantee every one of you that, if installed correctly, IT WILL CONTROL THE SLAVES FOR AT LEAST 300 HUNDREDS YEARS. My method is simple. Any member of your family or your overseer can use it. I HAVE OUTLINED A NUMBER OF DIFFERENCES AMONG THE SLAVES; AND I TAKE THESE DIFFERENCES AND MAKE THEM BIGGER. I USE FEAR, DISTRUST AND ENVY FOR CONTROL PURPOSES. These methods have worked on my modest plantation in the West Indies and it will work throughout the South. Take this simple little list of differences and think about them. On top of my list is “AGE,” but it’s there only because it starts with an “a.” The second is “COLOR” or shade. There is INTELLIGENCE, SIZE, SEX, SIZES OF PLANTATIONS, STATUS on plantations, ATTITUDE of owners, whether the slaves live in the valley, on a hill, East, West, North, South, have fine hair, course hair, or is tall or short. Now that you have a list of differences, I shall give you an outline of action, but before that, I shall assure you that DISTRUST IS STRONGER THAN TRUST AND ENVY STRONGER THAN ADULATION, RESPECT OR ADMIRATION. The Black slaves after receiving this indoctrination shall carry on and will become self-refueling and self-generating for HUNDREDS of years, maybe THOUSANDS. Don’t forget, you must pitch the OLD black male vs. the YOUNG black male, and the YOUNG black male against the OLD black male. You must use the DARK skin slaves vs. the LIGHT skin slaves, and the LIGHT skin slaves vs. the DARK skin slaves. You must use the FEMALE vs. the MALE, and the MALE vs. the FEMALE. You must also have white servants and overseers [who] distrust all Blacks. But it is NECESSARY THAT YOUR SLAVES TRUST AND DEPEND ON US. THEY MUST LOVE, RESPECT AND TRUST ONLY US. Gentlemen, these kits are your keys to control. Use them. Have your wives and children use them, never miss an opportunity. IF USED INTENSELY FOR ONE YEAR, THE SLAVES THEMSELVES WILL REMAIN PERPETUALLY DISTRUSTFUL. Thank you gentlemen.”
