Herb Score, legendary Indians pitcher hit in the face with a line drive... dies at 75...

Sad week for baseball to lose two pitching legends in the same week...

One being the great Herb Score...
Herb Score first jumped out into the big league scene in 1955 and hit the ground running... or hurling...
He was one of the most amazing left handed power pitchers ever to dazzle Indians fans from day one... Compared in sheer talent as equal to if not better than Sandy Koufax...
We went on to easily win the Rookie of the Year award when he was not only named to the All Star Game that year but also went 16-10 with 245 strikeouts.... A record that would stand until 1984
245 freakin strikeouts for a rookie... unheard of back then!
1956, he continued the trend, dazzling Indians fans more winning 20 games... going a dominating 20-9 with 263 strikeouts...
Then in 1957, came a day that will live in infamy in the devoted Cleveland Indians fans and basefall fans from all round who had seen or heard the broadcast...
In the top of the first inning against the Yankees at packed house of 18,000 plus at Cleveland Stadium with one out, facing Yankee infielder Gil MacDougald, a line drive off of MacDougald's bat struck Herb Score in the face fracturing many bones and damaging his eye... blood was all over the pitchers mound. It was a horrific moment that made everyone who loved the game feel sick so see something like this take place...
Score missed the rest of the season, and most of 1958 before making a late season comeback... but he was never the dominator he was his first two seasons...
The remainer of his career was short. he pitched a number of games for the Indians and White Sox until 1962, but never regained his strikeout artistry and couldn't post a winning record...
From 1964 until 1997, he served as a broadcaster providing great color commentary for the Indians on the radio and TV, finishing in 1997, his final game in the booth was that of a thrilling yet heartbreaking Game 7 Indians loss to the Marlins.
In 1998 he was inducted into the broadcasters Hall of Fame...
