    • Toshiba's Super Charge Ion Battery gets 90% full in 10 minutes

"Imagine this -- you, sitting in a dingy airport terminal waiting on your flight with a lifeless laptop and just 10 minutes to spare. You've got oodles of spreadsheet work to do before 8:00AM tomorrow, and unless you get it done on this flight, you're fubared.

Toshiba is looking to make said scenario seem like one that's not so grim, as its prototype SCIB (Super Charge Ion Battery) purportedly has the potential to get 90% full in just 10 minutes. The battery was unveiled at CEATEC 2008 in Japan, though little was known about its eventual availability..."

    • GreenMeter: IPhone App Measures The Pollution Parameter Of Your Car

"Why? It pays to be eco-friendly in more than one way. You not only reduce the volume of greenhouse gases emitted in the atmosphere but by efficient fuel consumption, you can also effectively reduce your energy bill.

If you are the proud owner of the iPhone, then by simply downloading the greenMeter application you could measure the correlation between your car’s engine power, the carbon emitted from it and the amount of gasoline or diesel used up in the process. The graphical analysis by the greenMeter helps you plan your energy usage while driving your car..."

    • Projectors in phones coming soon

Great, just as kids in the backs of buses playing their beats on crap phone speakers was starting to get a little passe, a mobile phone developer in Japan has announced that it is developing a phone that comes with a built-in projector - predicted to be released in about three years' time.

I don't really get the point of it.
Think I'll have to start bringing an eye mask as well as earplugs on my daily commute.

    • Unlimited mobile internet for life?

This new (rather ugly imo) gadget is a PocketSurfer 2R, a mobile phone/GPS/laptop thingy which its makers claim will allow you to have "unlimited web access" for only £60 a year with no contracts or fair uses policy and no expiry date. I question the reality of this though, since so many devices are now coming wi-fi enabled, and technology is changing so fast, surely it won't be long before this kind of technology becomes obselete? • World's tiniest projector

At 115 x 50 x 22mm and just 152g, this is certainly the tiniest 'real' projector we've yet to see hit the UK market. The mini gizmo runs completely silently for up to an hour off its rechargeble battery alone. Nonetheless, the resolution ain't all that great, at just 640x480 pixels with no widescreen option, though it's pretty neat nonetheless.

Following the Adobe rule, of course, the UK version, at £299, is about £100 more expensive than the US version. It just doesn't make sense...

    • 3D force touch field makes virtual sex a possibility

The vid for this gizmo may not seem all that incredible, with a bit of paper flapping up and down, but this high-fidelity 3D force field in the air can allow you to touch virtual objects with your bare hands. Though this technology could initially be used in virtual keyboards, the potential possibilities are endless - even as far as, according to its developers, creating 'virtual sex'! • Tamagotchis return from the dead

Remember the Tanagotchi craze? I remember having a purple one with a dog called Geoff. I think he died somewhere between maths and science after the teacher confiscated him for whining and left him in a drawer... *sigh*

ANYway, Tamagotchis, apparently, are now back and set to infuriate a new generation of primary and highschool teachers with their electronic mewlings for attention. Now in colour, the new 'gotchis seem not to be all that different from their previous incarnations. I wonder how well they'll go down with the latest iPod generation...

    • Wal-Mart Gives Consumers Number 1 Reason Why DRM is Not the Answer

«The music industry is struggling to gain a foot-hold in the battle with online piracy. The options available for music lovers to grow their music collection digitally is tremendous and free. So much so that music companies and publishers have struck up agreements with some of biggest names offering digital music: iTunes, Last.FM., Amazon, Myspace, and Wal-Mart.

While the options are appreciated, a certain restriction that comes with the music files is not. To help music labels combat piracy, digital music providers such as iTunes and Yahoo introduced DRM restricted music files to consumers. Today, Wal-Mart has given consumers the number 1 reason as to why DRM was the worst thing ever.»

    • A Nuclear Plant in Your Pocket?

A nuclear power plant in your pocket? Well not quite but portable nuclear power will help feed the world’s insatiable power requirements in the future, so says John Deal (CEO, Hyperion) of Hyperion Power Generation. What’s more, the first product of its kind will be launched by the year 2013.

The company claims that it can provide clean and affordable electricity through portable nuclear reactors in the coming years. This claim isn’t new; they said as much last year and spoke then about the development and sale of the same. Nobody believed them then, but now that the company has put a date to its objective, everyone’s noticing. Or at least getting ready the ridicule.

The company claims that the power generated is clean, as in, during the power generation process no greenhouse gases are produced which might contribute to climate change. Also, it is safe to produce — so much so that it is the most controlled and regulated type of power on the planet.

Further, it is also the most reliable and affordable method for generating electricity, says the company

Invented at the famed Los Alamos National Laboratory, Hyperion small modular power reactors make all the benefits of safe, clean nuclear power available for remote locations. For both industrial and community applications, Hyperion offers reliable energy with no greenhouse gas emissions. Hyperion power is also cheaper than fossil fuels and, when you consider the cost of land and materials, watt to watt, Hyperion s innovative energy technology is even more affordable than many developing alternative energy technologies.

Small enough to be transported on a ship, truck or train, Hyperion power modules are about the size of a “hot tub” approximately 1.5 meters wide. Out of sight and safe from nefarious threats, Hyperion power modules are buried far underground and guarded by a security detail.

    • New MacBook Pro with touchscreen trackpad sighted!

Well, given all the spoofs and fake images we've had lately I'd take this with a bit of salt, but if true, this 'spy shot' of the upcoming MacBook Pro looks pretty cool, with dock icons based on a touchscreen-style multitouch trackpad. Very exciting, and not entirely unlikely either, given the touchscreen technologies hitting mobiles left and right lately... • New eco MP3 player is a wind-up

Yup, crazy windup radio inventor Trevor Baylis has come up with an MP3 player that can play purely on elbow power, which means you can take it anywhere without the need for batteries or a powerpoint. Impressively, the Eco media player doesn't only play music, but also displays photos (with up to 12MB of memory), is compatible with iTunes and has an integrated phone charger just in case your mobile isn't similarly wind-up-able.

Wind-up technology is the way forwards, man!
