    • Justin Timberlake makes golf greener

In an interview for the PGA Tour website, Justin Timberlake revealed how he saved a struggling golf course last year from development and decided to open up his own, eco-friendly version.

Ecorazzi reports that the singer's golf course will be the first Platinum LEED certified green course in the US, which means it will be 100% eco-friendly and will also feature “a renewable energy field and a walking trail with educational placards and seating for the public to learn about responsible energy and natural resource usage.”

As you can see in the picture, Justin is taking care of each single grass blade himself.

    • Vicar snubs large donation over bunny girl stunt

A prudish vicar has turned down a donation of up to £10,000 for his church fund because he objects to the charity do being staffed by bunny girls.

Reverend Peter Wood turned down the offer following complaints from his parishioners, saying "an event with bunny girls is not something that we can be associated with."

One outraged local wrote a letter to the local paper in which they frothed: "I'm afraid that sometime soon we will see the emergence of the Gospel according to Hugh Hefner. God forbid!"

The event's organiser, Amanda Hill, defended the girl's saucy image and accused the church of "living in the dark ages."

"They must have a really low impression of bunny girls," she said, "Just because they dress up in costumes does not mean they have bad morals, most of those girls probably go to church anyway. I'm a female and I do not think that this is exploiting women and just because it will raise the blood pressure of a few men in the pews does not mean that it won't be doing something positive."

Proceeds from the bunny girl-staffed golf and dinner gala will go to another charity instead.

    • The 5 Most Challenging Golf Courses in the World

Golf is a game of prestige, status, and skill. It is one of the only truly fluid games where the venue makes all of the difference. One can be a champion at one course and a loser at another.

One of the most interesting aspects of the game is that there is a certain level of challenge when it comes to the course itself. Some courses favor power drivers, with long par fives, tall trees, and greens that are just out of reach for all but a few. Other courses favor those with a strong short game with terrain that can take a ball in 3 different directions on its way to the cup.

    • B.C. golf course institutes English-only policy

A prominent private Vancouver-area golf club has developed an English-language-only policy for its prospective members, similar to the one the LPGA Tour has said it plans to implement for its international players.

Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam, B.C.'s second-oldest golf course, has recently begun rejecting membership applications from individuals who can't speak English.

General manager Brent Gough, whose club has played host to two previous LPGA Tour events and hopes to land another one within the next five years, said the club changed its policies after it encountered problems with some of its new Korean members.

The Coquitlam area has a large Korean population and Mr. Gough said many members of the local Korean community had joined the club in recent years. Some of them were not proficient in English.

"It got to a point where we had signed up a lot of Korean members and it wasn't long until they were breaking many of the rules and weren't participating because they couldn't read anything or speak or communicate with us," Mr. Gough said Thursday.

Mr. Gough said the club has rejected a number of recent applicants from a variety of ethnic backgrounds who have not been able to demonstrate they can speak English.

More and more companies are finding themselves dealing with user-generated criticism - on blogs, forums and on YouTube.

This video is a great example of how to deal with this.

As a response to a fan video for Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08 that points out an apparent glitch in the game, Tiger Woods and EA Sports demonstrate that the “glitch” is not a glitch at all.

Their response video, in just two days, already has twice the number of views as the original video, which has been up a year.

    • Jade greens - Golf in China

Chairman Mao once derided golf as decadent and elitist is now emerging as one of China's tourist attractions designed to appeal to North American visitors. Currently there are 16 golf courses on Hainan Island, and an additional 30 more are planned for the next 20 years. Hainan Island's emergent transformation as a tourist destination for golf and leisure had been spurred as a Special Economic Zone in 1988 encouraging business investment and development. In Brian Kendall's report for The Globe and Mail (6 August 2008), he writes that China is looking to package Hainan Island as a premier tourist destination for North American travelers. Sanya, the island's port city, already has beachfront-lined luxury hotels that have displaced fishermen's homes only a few years ago. And with the construction and planning of 30 more golf courses, additional luxury resorts and hotels are also in development. • Should golf be an Olympic sport? Phil Mickelson thinks so....

There are two major international events on the sports schedule this week, the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills and the opening of the Beijing Olympics.

Now flash-forward eight years, when the twain might meet: There's a push to get golf into the 2016 Games, and that's a great idea, according to Phil Mickelson.

"I think having golf as an Olympic sport is exponentially more important to the game of golf than the majors," Mickelson said.

"It would bring in 168 different countries and their Olympic foundation, and all those revenues would be going toward the growth of the game of golf."

On the other hand, would it be right for the Olympics? Maybe not, according to Masters champ Trevor Immelman of South Africa.

He'd keep out golf and get rid of basketball and tennis, too.

"You've got three sports there that are like, guys are getting paid a lot of money to play and compete, week in and week out playing those sports," Immelman said. "It's so professional.

"To me, that's not what the Olympics is about. To me the Olympics was founded on amateur sports, guys training for four years and putting their whole lives on the line to win a gold medal."

Immelman said he would return to more traditional sports like gymnastics, weight lifting, swimming, track and field, and marathons.

"If I was head of the Olympic committee, I would go back to just those specific sports," he said. "That would be pretty cool."

Yeah, as long as you keep beach volleyball.
      Tiger: Can't bear to watch

If Tiger Woods isn't playing in the PGA Championship, guess who won't be watching it on TV this week? Tiger Woods.

"I probably won't watch any of this one," Woods told ESPN Radio's Scott Van Pelt. "This one's a little more frustrating for me. I'm two-time defending, and not being able to get out there and defend something I've already defended once and can't do it twice, it's a little bit frustrating."

Woods said he's enjoying his time off after knee surgery, trying to keep up with daughter Sam and also shooting a few sub-par rounds -- on the Tiger Woods video game.

Since it's ESPN, Woods was asked about Brett Favre. He said he'll know when it's time to retire.

"When I get to a point where my best is not good enough ... it's time for me to move on, rack the cue and go home," said Woods, who added the decision is easier with individual sports.

    • 11 Year Old Shoots a Hole-in-One on is 3rd Time Golfing

Golfing for just the third time, 11-year-old Allan Saylor was whacking the ball around with a friend, not even keeping score. A hole-in-one? No big deal. The sixth-grader fired the ace Wednesday on the 150-yard, par-3 sixth hole at the neighboring Mandan Municipal Golf Course, using a driver borrowed from his buddy.

He said the shot felt good at contact.

"It was a pretty low shot, a pretty flat drive," he recalled. "It probably rolled about 10 feet and the rest of it was in the air. It was probably one of my farthest shots."

Allan, whose favorite hobbies have been pheasant hunting and football, said he let out a "whoop" and high-fived his friend, 11-year-old Ethan Luck, when he saw the ball disappear in the hole. But the boys didn't think much more about it.

They were milling about the clubhouse waiting for a ride home when golf pro Patrick Wingard asked about their day at the course.

A group playing a hole ahead of the boys also witnessed the ace. The talk of it had just begun to spread when Allan and his friend finished up.

"I don't think they really thought it was a big deal," Wingard said. "I asked him if he knew what he just did, and he said, 'Not really.'"

Allan was mum about his hole-in-one when he got home, and never told his mom, Karen, about it.

"I didn't even know what a hole-in-one was," she said. "We're not golf people."

Wingard said an ace hasn't been scored at the course's sixth hole in at least the three years he's been a pro there.

"There's a bunker on right and a bunker on the left, so he had to thread the needle, so to speak," Wingard said. "It's a good little par-3."

Even pros like himself find aces elusive, he said.

"I'm 46 years old and I've been playing since I was four and I've never made a hole-in-one, and I've made a lot of money playing golf," Wingard said.

Ethan said he was happy for his friend but wished it had been him.

"He used my brother's club and my old bag," Ethan said. "I play a lot and it was only his third time."
