    • Transformers sequel given the go ahead

Dreamsworks and Paramount have let in known that the Transformers sequel is on its way.
The last film making over £300 million, studio heads are eager for the sequel.

An interview with a certain Mr Marvin Levy confirmed that the second installment of robot mayhem should be in cinemas by 2009. "Obviously you have a movie that's made as much money as Transformers has, you'd want to do another one," he said.

While director Michael Bay and star Shia LaBeouf have both expressed an interest in dealing with the robots in disguise again, the studios have offered no confirmation regarding the return of co-stars Josh Duhamel, Jon Voight and the lithe Megan Fox.

Though the partnership between Dreamworks and Paramount has recently been called into question, it is thought that Stephen Spielberg will return as executive producer when the Transformers next roll out.

    • HD-DVD Death Rattle

Rumors just won't stop about the future of HD DVD. The Digital Bits is reporting that their "second to none" sources informed them that both Universal and Paramount are in the process of going blu.

But don't bother asking 'em, because the same contracts that prevent them from switching now, prevent them from confirming the rumor. In addition, sources tell The Digital Bits that while Paramount could make an announcement any day now, Universal's won't come until February -- at the earliest -- because "their contract period with the HD-DVD camp expires at the end of January."

    • Kite Runner's Child Stars Forced Into Hiding

It appears that Paramount Pictures didn't foresee the possibility of tribal retaliation in response to the sensitive and likely controversial nature of the film's content. The four local Afghan boys who star in the film have been moved out of Afghanistan to an undisclosed location in the UAE to protect them from potential negative reaction and reprisal when the film is released this month. Paramount is now recognizing their error in judgement, however perhaps they should have been more transparent about the nature of the story in the first place.

"The boys' families have complained they were misled over the controversial rape scene before filming began in a region of China bordering Afghanistan. They say they thought the film was literally about kite-flying. Ahmad Mahmidzada's father has told reporters that they were not told about the scene until shooting was about to begin, and that promises had been made to remove it from the final cut."

I like to think that film companies should cast local people in their films. But definitely they should be completely clear about what the story is about, and be 100% sure that the nature of the script has been understood...ESPECIALLY when it deals with a sensitive issue that has the potential to cause a stir. What do you think about this?

    • Paramount, Dreamworks dropping Blu-ray in favor of HD DVD exclusivity

"Affiliations in the HD DVD vs. Blu-ray format war have been pretty clearly defined for nearly two years now -- despite a hybrid player here and some international releases there, most of the players involved have not switched support since the early days. Well that's all about to change, as Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks Animation -- which started off HD DVD only before deciding to go both ways -- have officially announced plans to release movies exclusively on HD DVD, dropping Blu-ray support entirely. This means that hits like Transformers, Shrek the Third and Blades of Glory won't follow Mission: Impossible III as cross-format releases when they debut this holiday season. Paramount has released about 30 movies on Blu-ray so far, but those days have come to an end: apparently cheaper HD players trump a 2:1 sales advantage. We can't wait to see how the Blu-ray camp responds to this." "Affiliations in the HD DVD vs. Blu-ray format war have been pretty clearly defined for nearly two years now -- despite a hybrid ... more
