Gay haters and the like have been beguiled by organized religion.
I used to be one of your kind. I too fell into the group of being someone that was self elevated and bigoted. In time I became educated to the reality of what it means to be gay.

I watched someone dear to me deal with the fact they were gay. They lived in the heart of a racist and bigoted land. You know I am speaking of Utah when I say this.

From an early age, this boy knew he was attracted to people of the same sex. He listened to his father and stepmother make jokes with his friends about all of those "gay bastards."

He decided he was going to make himself not gay. He tried everything he could think of to entice himself with things from the opposite sex. Relentlessly for two years he pursued this endeavor with no avail.

He sought out advice from counselors and numerous friends as to what he should and could do. He found nothing that could resolve his issue of being gay. He chose not to be gay but it wouldn't go away.

Facing great fear of condemnation and bodily harm from the Mormon masses and others he often contemplated suicide. For a period of about two years he toiled with the battle of whether or not he was worthy of living or if he should end it all by killing himself.

Having observed his intense struggle, I came to the conclusion that being gay was not his choice, but rather being something he was born with. Since this observation I have become an advocate for gay rights.

Hopefully you will witness someone near and dear to you go through this same struggle. I do not mean that I wish this experience on anyone that is gay.

However, if you are fortunate enough to have someone you care about that is gay, you will come to understand as I have. It will literally change your life and perspective if you have any dignity what so ever as you watch them try to deal with it.

Being gay is not a choice!

Is this really the cross they must bear? The things written in the bible as to this subject were written by people such as you. They neither could understand it nor could they accept it. The Summum of all fears: mummies, free speech, and the Supreme Court

Can a fringe religious sect that believes in mummifying pets and their owners force a landmark Supreme Court decision on free speech?

Reverend Fred Phelps, the infamous head of the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas, runs a website called www.godhatesfags.com and wants to erect a monument in Casper, Wyoming's Historical Monument Plaza depicting Matthew Shepard, the gay University of Wyoming student who was murdered in 1998. The caption would read, "Matthew Shepard entered Hell October 12, 1998, in defiance of God's warning 'thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is abomination.'"

The city of Casper has declined to host Phelps' monument. But whether the city can keep it out hinges on how the US Supreme Court decides a major free speech case involving a fringe religious sect that specializes in mummification of its adherents and, occasionally, their pets. If the court comes to the rescue of the religious group, whose cause civil libertarians would normally support, cities and towns across the country might have no choice but to showcase all manner of bizarre or hateful monuments, like the one proposed by Phelps.

On Wednesday, the court heard oral arguments in Pleasant Grove City v. Summum, a case that is essentially forcing the justices to decide which is worse: letting the likes of Phelps fill public plazas with a parade of horrors, or allowing governments like Pleasant Grove to discriminate against religious minorities when it comes to adorning public space. The case got its start in Utah, a perennial hotbed of church/state separation litigation, and centers on a Ten Commandments monument in Pleasant Grove's Pioneer Park. The monument is one of many erected around the country by the Fraternal Order of Eagles in the 1960s and '70s with backing from Cecile B. DeMille, who was promoting his Charlton Heston movie. The monuments have generated a host of litigation in the past few years, and at least one previous Supreme Court decision.

Summum is a small religious sect founded in 1975 by the late Summum Bonum Amon Ra (who also went by Corky). The group operates out of a pyramid in Salt Lake City and is most famous for carrying on the Egyptian tradition of mummification, a practice that is also the sect's primary source of income. Over the past 15 years, the group has become a thorn in the side of Mormon Utah towns that have public displays of the Ten Commandments. Summum first sued several towns to have the monuments removed in the mid-1990s. When those efforts failed, the group sought to erect monuments of its own, displaying its "Seven Aphorisms." Summum believe that God gave Moses the Aphorisms before he handed down the Ten Commandments, but that Moses destroyed the original tablets because the people weren't ready for the received wisdom. The Aphorisms, in the shortened version, are "Psychokinesis, Correspondence, Vibration, Opposition, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, and Gender."

I am ashamed of America

The national ballot results are in, and let me tell you--I am disgusted and ashamed of my fellow "Americans". Ballot measure after ballot measure, bigotry won by a narrow margin.

How dare anyone who voted against same-sex marriage call themselves Americans? Or those voting to keep same-sex couples from adopting children? How DARE you?

How dare you burn our Constitution and Bill of Rights, how dare you toss aside everything this country is supposed to stand for? Whatever happened to equality under the law? What deranged, hateful idea got into your heads that you had the right to control the personal relationships of others? Whether it be in the name of God, family, or tradition, the real reason was hate.

America is not a free country, it seems, and only half the country desires it to be free. The rest of you, it seems, would prefer an ultra-right wing country where "freedom" is only allowed for the Christian, conservative, traditional minority.

If marriage is not a right guaranteed to all consensual adults, who are engaged in legal relationships (remember, folks, homosexual relationships ARE legal!), then it is not a right for you, either. Supporters of the bans against gay marriage, I'm sure you would gladly give up your 'privelege' to be married, then? Until you've earned it as a group?

You bigoted, hateful people amaze me...

Many of you whined and said that you weren't against gays, but you were for children and families. You used children for your hateful, bigoted politics. Any idea who else did this?

That's right, Adolf Hitler.

Adolf Hitler, too, claimed to want to "defend" marriage. He himself used children for his own political gains, and perhaps that's where the campaigners for these freedom-killing measures got their strategy: you can convince a population of anything, he said, by doing it in the name of the children. He brainwashed children into singing for his cause (sound familiar?) and used the cause of children and family as a cover for his policies.

Hitler, too, hated gays, though he took it a step further and killed thousands of them because they didn't fit into his narrow worldview. It was done in the name of family, children, and traditional "morals".

When 52% of the people get to tell the rest how to live their lives, you know freedom is dead. I only hope that someday, 52% of the people strip you of your rights to be married. You deserve it.

Gay Marriage Not Happening in California

California's Constitution has been amended with the following language "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California," as a result of the passage of Proposition 8.

Thus, the right of same-sex couples to marry has been terminated, said right having been established as a result of a state supreme court ruling on May 22.

Throughout the year, Prop. 8 lagged in the polls, but won the only poll that counts: The actual election.

What caused the dramatic change in sentiment?

Ironically enough, politicians and educators in San Francisco, who ardently support same-sex marriage, sabotaged their own cause with reckless decisions and irresponsible behavior.

To begin with, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom arrogantly celebrated the May 22 court decision that legalized gay marriage by bombastically declaring, "This door's wide open now." "It's going to happen, whether you like it or not."

Much to the chagrin of the leftist mayor, that unwise stint of in your face gloating was caught on video and was featured prominently in an ad by those who support Prop. 8.

In other words, Mayor Newsom unwittingly became THE star performer for those who wish to ban gay marriage!

Clue less San Francisco educators added fuel to the fire started by Newsom with an equally bizarre move.

As reported in the San Francisco Chronicle in a story titled, Class surprises lesbian teacher on wedding day, "A group of San Francisco first-graders took an unusual field trip to City Hall on Friday to toss rose petals on their just-married lesbian teacher - putting the public school children at the center of a fierce election battle over the fate of same-sex marriage."

With folks like Mayor Gavin Newsom and San Francisco teachers around, all that proponents of Prop. 8 had to do was simply wait for the next wave of incomprehensible stupidity to surface, and then make sure that the voting public was informed of that stupidity.

Bottom line: Gay marriage is NOT going to happen, whether liberals like it or not!
