Death of a Korean Actress Shocks Immigrant Community
The death of a popular South Korean actress sent a shockwave throughout the Korean immigrant community in the United States and raised awareness of the importance of mental health, reports the Korea Times published in Los Angeles. Choi Jin-sil, 40, was a fixture of Korean prime-time television drama. She was found dead Thursday hanging from a shower stall with an elastic band tied around her neck in her home in southern Seoul. Choi, a single mother of two, was lately dogged by rumors circulating on the Web that she may have played a role in the suicide of an actor who took his own life last month after reportedly being pressured by loan sharks to pay off his large debt, reports the newspaper. The loss of the motherland's iconic entertainer raises a question of why a soaring number of Koreans rush to kill themselves, report the Korea Times. The former Brookside star has fought off competition from some of Britain's peachiest celebrity posteriors to be crowned Rear of the Year by online voters.

Lindsay Lohan is getting political.
The 22-year-old actress took to her MySpace blog Tuesday to post her thoughts on Republican John McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and the revelation that Palin's unmarried 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.
"I've been watching the news all morning, like everyone else — and (I) keep hearing about the issues related to `teen pregnancy.' ... Well, I think the real problem comes from the fact that we are taking the focus off of getting to know Sarah Palin and her political views, and what she can do to make our country a less destructive place," Lohan wrote. Helena Bonham Carter's 'relatives' die in crash
Four British tourists, understood to be relations of Hollywood actress Helena Bonham Carter, have died in a minibus crash in South Africa, the Foreign Office has confirmed.
The family were on a safari holiday when the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and overturned on Wednesday.
Three of the dead have been named as 14-year-old Eton schoolboy Marcus Egerton-Warburton, his grandmother Brenda Bonham Carter, 74 and step-grandfather Francis Kirkwood, 75.
The sailing club Marcus had been a member of announced the boy's death on its website, stating, "It is with the very greatest sadness that I have to inform you that Marcus Egerton-Warburton tragically died in a road accident in South Africa at around 4pm on Wednesday 20th August. They were in a mini-bus travelling between game reserves at the time of the accident."
It added that Charlie - believed to be referring to the boy's father - flew out to South Africa yesterday.

"The Wire" actress who played 'Snoop' arrested in Baltimore
Actress Felicia Pearson, who played the cold blooded killing muscle for For drug kingpin Marlo Stanfield in HBO's hit series "The Wire," was arrested on minor drug charges yesterday after police picked her up for refusing to cooperate as a witness in a murder trial.
Pearson, who made headlines for her intense performance as an enforcer only known as "Snoop," in 'The Wire,' grew up "in the system," on the streets of Baltimore since both parents were in prison at the time of her birth.
Pearson, who was discovered as the "real deal" by fellow 'Wire' actor Michael Kenneth Williams (Who played Omar Little) has spent time in prison for second degree murder when she was 14.
In a review for ROLLING STONE magazine written by Stephen King Felicia was named “the most terrifying female ever in a television series” and loved her performance. Elizabeth Taylor's ill health played down
Dame Elizabeth Taylor is 'fine' and is soon expected to return home from a 'precautionary' spell in hospital, her publicist has said.
Dick Guttman called reports that the 76-year-old actress is seriously ill as "dramatic, overstated and untrue". But he declined to give further details about the Oscar winner's condition or where she is receiving treatment. Mr Guttman added: "At present, she is surrounded by family, friends and fabulous jewels."
Over the last decade Dame Elizabeth has been dogged by a number of health problems which have left her confined to a wheelchair. She has broken her back five times, had a benign brain tumour removed in 1997, and suffers from the brittle bone disease osteoporosis. In 2004, the actress suffered from congestive heart failure, which compounded by spinal fractures and a curvature left her almost bedridden. In an interview with CNN in 2006, she denied speculation that she was gravely ill or being treated for Alzheimer's disease, saying: "Oh come on, do I look like I'm dying?"
Dame Elizabeth began her Hollywood career as a teenager in films such as Lassie Come Home and National Velvet. She won best actress Oscars for Butterfield 8 in 1960 and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? six years later.
